Moving Right Along: Myers v Maine IGT 7/23/08

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 23 2008 07:35 AM

Yeah, let's go mets n' shit.

TransMonk
Jul 23 2008 03:57 PM

Viva Delgado!

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 05:15 PM

The word of the evening is "resilience".

We need this team to show some.

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 05:17 PM

Nice 1st inning for Maine.

How could that one pitch to Burrell be called a ball?
Angel Hernandez sucks.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 05:25 PM

Endy walks with one out. Whatever Wright does, please hold Endy at third unless it's out of the park.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 05:26 PM

Wright walks. Delgado witha chance to inflict some damage.

The Mets need to abuse Bret Myers tonight. It can't be too hard to do, it appears the entire league has been abusing him this season.

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 05:27 PM

Nice.
Three walks in a row by Myers.
This game could make or break him with the Phils.

Cant let him wriggle out of this.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 05:28 PM

Myers is too busy abusing himself for the Mets to hit him. Delgado draws the third straight Annie Oakley from Myers.

Come on Beltran, make him pay.

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 05:30 PM

4th walk plates a run.
Woot!

Lets get more..break this open Marlon!

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 05:31 PM

I think Endy will be safe this time. Myers issues his fourth consecutive walk and the Mets are on the board.

Damn, Marlon Anderson is up with the bases juiced.

metirish
Jul 23 2008 05:32 PM

Was Anderson limping trotting to first , looked like he was to me.

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 05:33 PM

Break as DP grounder goes off Howards glove.

Why wasn't Anderson busting it to 1st?

And Easley grounds out to end the inning.
Ill take the two runs.

Frayed Knot
Jul 23 2008 05:34 PM

I'll take the 1st inning ... but just think about how much more Myers & the Phils would be shitting if the batter following those walks were Alou & Church rather than Anderson & Easley.
Just a thought.

Now we just have to keep Maine from playing copy-cat.

btw, Angel Hernandez is still a prick.

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 05:41 PM

UGH.
2-2.
2 homers.
Back 2 back
2 much.

Victorino's just made it but Jenkins just crushed his way outta there.

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 05:44 PM

I can only hope Myers doesn't settle down and pitch a nice game, and that Maine does.

Lets get em right back.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 05:52 PM

Myers cruises through an easy second inning with three ground ball outs. Though Rollins made a nice backhand play on Maine's shot.

Maine needs to come out against the top of the Phillies order and match Myers.

Jul 23 2008 05:58 PM

hey guys.

tell Buck to put a sock in it. Its like I'm watching a "How to Play in the Majors" workshop video.

themetfairy
Jul 23 2008 06:07 PM

Shit! Delgado gets hit on the wrist.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 06:07 PM

Come on Mets. Myers is doing all he can to give this game away. Let's at least be gracious enough to accept his generous gift.

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 06:09 PM

That time you shudda sent him Louie.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 06:09 PM

Beltran singles to load the bases again. Of course, it's Marlon "Why am I still here" Anderson at the plate.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 06:10 PM

Worthless!

Come on Easley.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 23 2008 06:14 PM

Anderson and Schneider: Met Killers

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 06:15 PM

Schneid swings at the 1st pitch. Gah.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 06:29 PM

Endy with an excuse me swing and ground out (FC) on what would have been ball 4.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 06:34 PM

An average first baseman grabs that grounder Delgado missed.

seawolf17
Jul 23 2008 06:37 PM

Way to give the run back. Fucking hell.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 06:38 PM

0-2, finish him off, Johnny!

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 06:38 PM

Big K.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 06:46 PM

I think I've seen my fill of Marlon Anderson. He's gotten about 125 PA and is still rocking a .250 OBP and .287 SLG.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 06:48 PM

Howard chugs out an infield hit to lead off.

NICE! Easley tags Howard on his fat ass for the DP!

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 06:52 PM

Great DP by Easley.
Nice play.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 06:53 PM

Nice play on Victorino's chopper by Easley to get an inning ending double play.

Now, Let's Go Mets!!!

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 06:56 PM

Easley angling to get himself some beer! C'mon Bry-Schny, let's see something.

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 06:58 PM

1st and 2nd, no out. Maine up to sac..

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 06:58 PM

Sweet! Hopefully Johnny Maine can go at least another inning after the team gives up this out.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 07:00 PM

Not exactly the out I wanted him to give up.

Reyes Kaboom!!!!

Reyes rounds the bases holding his arm up displaying his number one finger (thats the index finger).

Phils broadcasters say of Reyes dugout dance: "they have to stop that crap."

I thought Wright was dead meat on that steal, but he just made it ahead of Rollins' tag.

Bring him home Carlos.

Its the 7th.
Let it rain.

Phils go lefty/righty/lefty/righty next inning- Show time?

Edit- <-Post 420, what no Bobby V acting stoned avatar? =)

Rockin' Doc

Beautiful hit and run executed by the Mets puts runners at the corners. Tatis will hit for Maine.

AG/DC
Jul 23 2008 07:23 PM

Hoping for the Show.

Schneider with extra bases. It's apparently allowed.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 07:24 PM

I think that's a good "hold" sign at third. C'mon Jose, I mean Endy.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 07:25 PM

Phillies want no part of Reyes. They will load the bases for Endy.

How thirsty are you EndY?

AG/DC
Jul 23 2008 07:25 PM

I send Castro up here.

AG/DC
Jul 23 2008 07:26 PM

I take that back. You go, Endy.

Utley looks like a totally different (read: much worse) player compared to two months ago.
He maybe has one good swing tonight.

Schoeneweis with a nice K of Utley to open the inning.

Howard vs Lefties < Nick Evans

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 07:35 PM

The shift helps to rob Howard of a likely hit.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 07:37 PM

Another great job by the Show. Now go get this chump, Agent Smith.

Zvon
Jul 23 2008 07:40 PM

Good inning from the pen.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 07:42 PM

Last 28 days, opponents hitting .171/.244/.220 vs Joe Smith. Chad Bradford in the making? Or will lefties continue to eat him up?

Also, that bootleg version of Fogerty's "Centerfield" in that Hyundai commercial is way too similar to the original.

Vince Coleman Firecracker

Insurance time.

Nice Beltran. Bunt with two on to get Cancel to the plate.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 07:46 PM

Mets have a chance for some insurance runs. Beltran lays down a bunt attempt that moves the runners to first and third.

I personally would have preferred Beltran to swing the bat and try to drive in some runs.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 07:46 PM

Great job bunting, Beltran. The team is much better off with Cancel swinging and 1 out.
Oh, no shit huh? He fucking grounds out and scores no one. Big fucking surprise.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 07:49 PM

How about instead of bunting with Beltran, the Mets just pulled Wright and Delgado off the bases and offered to start the top of the ninth? Seems the more gentlemanly thing to do.

themetfairy
Jul 23 2008 07:49 PM

We're improving - we only stranded two this inning.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 07:50 PM

Strap yourself in tight, it's Wagner time.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 07:52 PM

I think I'd keep Heilman warm, just in case Wags has any issues.

No problemo RD :)

Meanwhile, Wagner pitches a 1-2-3 9th. Most is forgiven.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 23 2008 07:59 PM

Uneventful 9th by Wagner. I expect plenty of mystical-sounding talk about pitching in the dreaded 9th inning coming our way.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 23 2008 08:00 PM

An important win to get back into a tie for first and stop the Phillies momentum after last night's debacle.

Wagner is without a doubt my favorite player. In fact, if I could, I would have his children.

Vince Coleman Firecracker

My reaction to the inevitable post-game "Jeter has an Edge" commercial- not nearly as bad as last night. Funny how that works.

Oh christ on a fucking cracker, do they always have to show it twice?

Frayed Knot

Sometimes the only worse than having a high-priced mercurial closer is NOT having a high-priced mercurial closer.

I like mixing it up with Delgado at cleanup.

Marlon has no business being on this team. He's been great for us in the past, but not at all this year.

Good win, let's take the nooner tomorrow.

Nothing like a 3-run Reyes bomb and the Jose-Jose-Jose chant to equally shut up and infuriate the Philly fans in my section. (I did get a $20 ticket for $10 from them, too).

Beltran bunt = NO!

Thought Beltran also deserved an error on Rollins' hit. If he fields it cleanly and gets it back it, either Ruiz doesn't score (on a perfect relay) or Rollins is at least held at first.

Also thought Rollins might've deserved an error on the first infield single by Easley.

A check of the records indicates that somehow this is the fifth time I've seen Brett Myers start against the Mets, as many times as any opponent starter. (First time seeing him since 2005, though).

Yeah! Did he say both words? Or did he perform both acts?

TransMonk
Jul 24 2008 08:08 AM

He said both words. The reporters seemed to be pushing him a little harder after he dropped the f-bomb. He was talking about the Victorino play and how he [Billy] is 37 and Victonino is "what, like 25?"

Matt Yaloff paused when the feed got back to the studio and said something to the effect of "that's what a major league clubhouse is like."
