Wagner on talking with Pat Burrell:

“Not on the phone, but on the field,” Wagner said. “I'm thinking about selling my '68 Chevy and he's like, "Now isn't a good time.' Pat says, "We can't let too many people seeing us talk or shake hands or else people might think we like each other.”
It's a fine beast, a '68, but it's almost a law that you have to have a mullet in oder to own one. But relief pitchers, I guess, are all mullet-men in spirit.

Springsteen sang about a '69, Steve Earle his '66. John Cusack drove a '67 in Better Off Dead after his French girlfriend helped him get it on the road, so Billy's choice of '68 appears to be his own.

Other Camaro-referencing songs (with wikipdedia help):

  • "Aldemaro en su Camaro" by Los Amigos Invisibles

  • "Bitchin' Camaro" by Dead Milkmen

  • "Camaro" by Kings of Leon

  • "Camaro Man" by Blue Meanies

  • "Go Lil' Camaro Go" by The Ramones

  • "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus

  • "The List" by Metric

  • "Wishlist" by Pearl Jam
Almost 100% of my hot-rod knowledge comes from Ms. Edgy's side of the family (and they were/are mostly Ford people), but ownership of the car places you somewhere between hardworking greaser, and obnoxious jerkoff. I guess Billy fits in somewhere on that continuum.

'Teenage Dirtbag' takes me back to a special time. So does 'Bitchin' Camaro,' actually. Different special times, though. Who knew how influential the Camaro had been on my special times?
