My Citi Field brick arrived!

My awesome cousin surprised me by getting a Citi Field Fan Walk brick, and a glorious package arrived today.

The team sends you a certificate, and a display brick with the desired writing on it. Tim had it inscribed with my name and "A Mets fan forever" on it. It comes with felt on the bottom (so it won't scratch the mantle) and a little plaque on top that says "Citi Field 2009 New York Mets Foundation."

I was home today when the mail truck arrived, and the carrier said "You've got a heavy package." I said, "Yes! My brick!!!"

"A brick?"

"Yeah, it's really cool."

Then she drove away looking at me like I'm crazy.

Given my ability to jinx the Mets -- I'm hoping to break a 10-game, 17-year losing streak on Saturday in Cincy -- the team will probably put a trash can on top of me.

Congratulations! Got mine (a gift as well) the other day. Man, this is heavy, I thought. Now if I can get a brick from Shea, I'll have...well, I'll have two bricks.

Excellent.

You have an 11-game losing streak when seeing the Mets in person? Good lord, that's terrible.

Very nice!

I ordered a rock in the mail back in December. (It was an engraved river rock for my cat's backyard grave.) It's very strange to get such a heavy package.

My older son, who is not a baseball fan, thought that the brick was a very cool thing.

It's sitting up on our mantle.

Finding its twin on the Fanwalk when the new stadium opens could be a time consuming chore.

I'm all ready to spring for a brick but I can't think of anything original to put on it.

17 year losing streak?!

I was wondering about that - will they tell you where they're going to place the brick or just leave you to find it on your own?

soup - I'd like the former, but I'm expecting the latter.

That could actually be a fun family project though.

Every time you go to a game you have to look for the brick.

It could be a CPF off day outing. We could congregate there and make a map of where our bricks are located.

Soup, it's sad, but true. Actually, I misspoke. It's 10 games. (Keep it mind that it's harder to see them out here, and I'm not counting spring training wins)

But here it is. It's almost taken on a life of its own. My friends and family openly discuss ways they'll blow any game as soon as I take my seat.

1991 July 21, Mets 9, Dodgers 4
1993 April 18, Reds 3, Mets 2
1995 July 26, Cardinal 3, Mets 2
1995 Sept. 24, Marlins 4, Mets 3
1997 June 17, Yankees 6, Mets 3
1997 June 30 Tiger 14, Mets 0
1999 April 5, Marlins 6, Mets 2
2007 June 10, Tigers 15, Mets 7
2007 Aug. 4, Cubs 6, Mets 0
2008 April 21, Cubs 7, Mets 1
2008 June 28, Yankees 3, Mets 2

I'm obsessed now. If they lose Saturday I'm going to convince my buddies to stay one more day and see Pedro on Sunday. If that fails, they're coming to Milwaukee in September, and that's only five hours away.

My buddies have a brick at Great American Ballpark. The team has each section of the walkway numbered, and they told them what section it was located in. We had fun finding it, and posing for many, many photos.

Will they let you put something silly or cryptic on the brick, or does it have to be something expressing Mets fandom?

What an awesome idea!

I know at one point there was discussion about chipping in together for a Crane Pool brick. I'm game, if others are.

I think Tim said it was anything he wanted -- within bounds of tase, of course -- limited to 200 characters.

How much does a brick cost?

That's funny!

And Alec Baldwin is a fellow Berner High alum.

Macy was actually 'the Cooler' in the film. Baldwin, the casino boss.

17 years though, man.

Can I convince you not to go Saturday?

The Reds really, really want me there. It's their Hall of Fame night.

Their Hall of Fame night? , I expect Marge Schott to ride onto the field to great acclaim.

That's awesome. And his foot is right on Grand Rapids, were I work.

I interviewed Marge back in 1992. Complicated person. But nice to me.

I must be getting tired. I could have sworn that said you dated Marge. My hair stood on end.
