Player Count

I noticed this morning when pasting the current Mets stats, that the team has used 41 players already, which seems like a lot.

So I did some SQLing, and it turns out that, if the Mets stop at 41, that's not an especially high total. But since there are over 60 games remaining to be played, and possible trades and September call-ups, the number is sure to rise.

The most players ever used by the Mets in a single season is the 54 that were used in 1967. (The Mets came close to challenging that record in 2004 with 52 and in 2003 with 50.) The fewest ever was in 1988, which was a pretty good year, when the Mets used 32 players.

Here's how many players the Mets used in each of their 47 seasons so far:

1967 54
2004 52

I don't know, for a while he was a good "local boy makes good, feel good story of the year."

Up to 45 now (I think) and that's without a major trade and nearly 1/3 of the season to go.
