“The Mets have been in first place my whole life...

Centerfield

...I think they’re going to go all the way.” She says to me this morning when I bring up the thin outfield and the injury-prone rotation.

“This team?” I respond. “What, were you born yesterday?”

“As a matter of fact, I was.”

Stella was born on July 20, 2008 weighing 6 lbs, 5 oz. Both mother and baby are doing fine. Ryan, for the time being anyway, seems excited about his baby sister. Only dad is beat and could use a nap.

For those that are new to this board, my wife had complications with her second pregnancy. Our first daughter Miranda was born in January of 2007, 11 weeks early, but died shortly after birth. Afterwards, we were flooded with an outpouring of support from our friends and family, including many people on this forum. I am thrilled to be able to share this happier time with all of you.

Stella’s time in the womb was spotless, which is saying something considering the scrutiny she received all throughout. Multiple tests, constant monitoring, every precaution you can think of culminated in what the nurse called “the easiest delivery I’ve ever seen.” Immediately upon birth, Stella set records for largest number of people exhaling in unison and most thoughts and prayers received per pound.*

(*Modern era, park adjusted)

I started to tell her about all of the things we went through, and she interrupts me with one request: “Get me to Shea before she closes her doors forever.”

A father’s work is never done.

Here's hoping she'll still be able to say that when she's 80.

I can't wait to meet the little cutie :)

Someone has to go into the archives and find CF's classic post about his son's birth in August 2005.

Great news, congratulations!

Looking at the projections, the cranepoolforum little league team will have
a spot open at second in 2013. Get working on her footwork asap.

The Mets request that CF and his wife keep having children since the team always wins in celebration of their birth.

When do you have that ceremony where the kid chooses his life path?

Sorry if I'm getting that wrong - I remember you posting pictures of it when you did it for Ryan.

Does the child have to be a particular age? Is it done for girls as well?

CF was kind enough not only to send me some photos of his beautiful new daughter, but to give me permission to post them here.

Thank you everyone. We're tired but also happier than we've ever been.

Soup, that happens on the baby's first birthday. I assume it's done for girls too, but even if it isn't, we'll have one for her anyway.

They have to choose their life's path on their first birthday???

Wow! I'm 45 and I don't know if I've settled on anything yet.

Anyway, I have it on good authority that the thing to do is to go into "plastics."

Here's a pic of my girl who just turned one last Saturday.

Nope. (I had to look that up. The CPF is always an educational experience).

She goes by Iz, casually, as she was named for my late grandfather Isidore and that was his nickname as well.

I don't know if I'd put that up publickly. It's just begging for a less-than-humorous visit from child welfare.
