Knight, rhp

Jerry goes for the what is undoubtedly the first battery consisting of former members of the Somerset Patriots.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 26 2008 05:19 PM

The Mets are likely going to need to score a lot of runs tonight to get a win.

Knight is off to a rough start. Single - HBP- Single gets the bases loaded to open the game for the Cardinals.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 26 2008 05:21 PM

Ankiel singles to drive in the first run. Bases are still loaded with no outs and Troy Glaus up for the Cardinals. Knight needs to get out of this mess with minimal damage. I'm hoping for a 6-4-3 DP here.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 26 2008 05:23 PM

Best have someone warming up in the pen. It's not looking good as Knight walks in a run.

Now Molina drives in another run with a sac fly. Well, at least the Mets get the first out of the inning.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 26 2008 05:25 PM

ugh. Endy providing a preview of Manny's outfield play.

Benjamin Grimm
Jul 26 2008 05:26 PM

With the Phillies and the Marlins having already won, I'm ready to chalk this us as a bad day.

On a positive note, if the Mets do win this one, it will be especially inspiring.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 26 2008 05:27 PM

Knight is throwing batting practice out there as Miles singles for the fourth Cardinal run. Luckily, La Genius has his pitcher hitting 8th, hopefully Knight can handle him.

Benjamin Grimm

I'm setting a goal for Brandon Knight:

Have a better game than Brett Hinchliffe did.

Well that was fun to watch.

Let's get a couple back quick or it's going to be a long night.

TransMonk

That first inning was bad, but it could have been worse.

We will need some O today. A seven run inning would be nice.

Reyes' double would've been a triple in the Polo Grounds.

Well we got a couple back.

I'm really hoping Knight doesn't pitch like this during the Olympics.

Benjamin Grimm

I don't give a damn how he pitches during the Olympics. I only care how he pitches in Flushing today.

Reyes' Home Run would've been a Home Run in the Polo Grounds.

AG/DC
Jul 26 2008 06:32 PM

Things are really breaking good for Met fans these days.

Journeyman guy gets his first big league start, has a first inning so bad that it invokes Brent Hinchcliffe, he settles down and starts pounding the strike zone, shutting down a Cardinal team that can hit, if nothing else, and the Mets hit him back into the game.

And as I type, Jose Reyes parks one to give journeydude a lead.

Maybe not. I'm not as sure as I was when I first wrote the post above.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 26 2008 06:37 PM

Really the 1st inning wasn't so rough on Knight until the cheapie bloop single, accidental HBP and misplayed fly ball loaded the bases with nobody out.

Anyway, he just put the giveback run on base.

AG/DC

Dark Knight gets the Joker to ground out and he's in line for a winnigan.

AG/DC

Robinson Cancel: has any Met with a bigger mass-height ratio ever beaten out a DP grounder and then stolen second?

No way that Hr leaves the Polo Grounds.

Roll your mouse over the Shea link on the right side for an easy Shea to Polo comparison. The position of home plate is identically situated in each of the stadium diagrams.

The Mets used three catchers this year with the initials of R.C. (Robinson Cancel, Ramon Castro & Raul Casanova).

It's only the 7th inning, no?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 26 2008 08:00 PM

Well, now it's the 8th.

I secretly hate it when the No. 9 guy reaches with 2 out and nobody on and the Mets in need of a run. I feel like Reyes has more juice when he leads off a frame. Plus it keeps our No. 2 hitter from leading off.

AG/DC
Jul 26 2008 08:04 PM

Duaner gets an out!

A strikeout!

Well, at least when the #2 hitter is leading off, he's less likely to bunt.

How about LaRussa letting Izzy hit for himself with 2nd & 3rd, only to take him out the following inning anyway?

Key baffling decision could loom xtra large.

Let's rock and roll:

Rockin' Doc
