Marlins have the only single-digit HR guy (of the front 7) batting cleanup.

AG/DC
Jul 28 2008 05:34 PM

Sounds like another Met-friendly crowd.

Marlins booth is crowing about an inconsistent strike zone from C.B. Bucknor. Gameday disagrees.

Benjamin Grimm
Jul 28 2008 05:44 PM

Hits by Tatis and Easley drive in two in the second.

2-0 Mets.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 28 2008 05:55 PM

Has Tatis officially been suspected of steroid use yet? He smashed that 0-2 pitch 400 feet. Crazy

He seems to love to hit with two strikes. He likes curves and I guess folks like to throw them when they're ahead.

Delgado swings at ball four and gets an infield hit. Riduckulous. What isn't breaking the Mets' way?

AG/DC
Jul 28 2008 06:00 PM

And he's caught stealing.

Don't get stupid, guys.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 28 2008 06:34 PM

That CS gave Beltran a 2nd chance vs. Nolasco but looked like he didn't have a shot in either one.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 28 2008 06:41 PM

Get well soon, John Maine.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 28 2008 06:42 PM

Ouch. If John baker can hit on that far, imagine what Frank Poncherello will do.

TransMonk
Jul 28 2008 06:44 PM

What's going on?

bmfc1
Jul 28 2008 06:45 PM

Uh-oh. Maine looks pissed. Plus, he's only 2 outs from being eligible for a win.

bmfc1
Jul 28 2008 06:51 PM

What a great play by Wright!

AG/DC
Jul 28 2008 06:53 PM

How to keep fans from interfering: outjump their fat asses.

Jul 28 2008 06:53 PM

Anybody want to see Muniz in a Met uni tomorrow night?

Jerry and the trainer went out there when Maine fell behind on Baker 2-0. Maine gave them that, "Ain't nothing wrong with me" look then seemed to halfassedly throw 2 warmups as if to prove he was healthy. Baker hit rhe next pitch to Daytona Beach. Then Nolasco hit one to deep right and that was that.

Maine sat on the bench and has yet to hit the trainer's room.

He even seems slimmer than he was during his first callup earlier in the year.

Cahnfidence = off the chart.

Another hit as I type.

Needed that 6-4-3 DP.

AG/DC
Jul 28 2008 07:13 PM

Needed it because Muñiz was either hurt or jakin' it on that squibber to first.

Figured this would have been a spot for Collazo.

Keith Hernandez is a Marx Bros. fan. Riffs on Hugo Z. Quackenbush. Gary says "Horse Feathers".

Marlin booth says Maine has a sore forearm that he is icing.

Maine says he's fine.

AG/DC
Jul 28 2008 07:21 PM

And Muņiz standing around the mound instead of backing up the plate when the tying runs scores.

TransMonk
Jul 28 2008 07:28 PM

Now the Marlin booth is saying stiffness in Maine's right shoulder.

No word on if he's icing it or not.

AG/DC
Jul 28 2008 07:33 PM

Bench wasting alert.

Faced with a lefty, they lift Schneid for a pinch hitter, but rather than Cancel or Castro, they go with Evans, even though a catcher will have to enter the game anyhow.

Well, the next batter is the pitcher, so surely they'll throw Castro up there now, with a runner on base. Nope. Argenis, who bunts out.

They score not.

Replay shows his shoe came off as he broke for first. He shoulda kept running anyway but instead tried to adjust.

The real bonehead play that inning was Schneid failing to catch that pitch.

Jerry calls for another bunt, Mets again execute, Mets again don't score. Hey, Jerry: Try something else.

Thanks

Hey Jerry, in case you haven't figured it out yet. Bunting Is For Losers.

When was the last time the Mets had a sacrifice bunt actually result in their scoring a run?

Frayed Knot
Jul 28 2008 07:53 PM

More Uggla defense by Dan Ugly and it's 3-2 Metsies.

The Marlins TV shows a moron w/a sign in the stands that reads "If New York is so great, move back." I don't know what the Marlins announcers are saying because I can't stand them so I have FAN on via the computer and the game a half-minute delayed via the DVR.

Dear Omar,

Please get some bullpen help.

Thank you.

Would be real nice if someone in the pen could like like anyone out.

TransMonk
Jul 28 2008 08:11 PM

Agreed, I'll take my chances with Tatis and Chavez in the outfield if we can get another bullpen arm.

If the Mets lose this game, it will be the 5th loss of the month on the bullpen...and we'll have only had 7 losses this month.

Jul 28 2008 08:12 PM

It would be something else if we get out of this down a few runs only.

metsguyinmichigan
Jul 28 2008 08:13 PM

Horrible.

And the cost of a Street or Fuentes goes up with each ugly outing, I'm sure.

seawolf17
Jul 28 2008 08:15 PM

This got ugly quickly, didn't it?

metsguyinmichigan
Jul 28 2008 08:17 PM

Big strikeout.

Jul 28 2008 08:18 PM

Ahh feck that , I hate to see them score like that.

metirish
Jul 28 2008 08:18 PM

Forget that , Marlins break it open.

TransMonk
Jul 28 2008 08:19 PM

Fuckshit!

AG/DC
Jul 28 2008 08:27 PM

A lot of dumb --- or at least indecisive --- play here by the Mets.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 28 2008 08:37 PM

Eh, we had no biz winning today anyhow. Lost our starter early, didn't "deserve" to score any runs, played some bad D.

playing every day instead of riding a bench (or sitting on the couch retired) will do that for you

Take away Tatis' performance and this game was kind of a Willie throwback. Bunting their way out of an inning, an ill-advised steal attempt, mostly punchless through the middle of the order, the bullpen over-exposed, and a harmless at-bat by Anderson in the ninth.

The Marlins didn't outplay the Mets, so much as the Mets out-bonered the Marlins.

I also want to add "avoiding the new guy" (Willie Collazo) to my list of whines.
