Brian Stokes wearing No. 43

Let's Go Mets!

Fernando Tatis starts the night with another catch only he can make. He's like Endy if Endy was the Warren Beatty character in "Heaven Can Wait".

Stokes comes backs to earth by giving up a ground rule 2B, but recovers with a more routine fly ball.

The other Brian Stokes played a militant basketball player in The White Shadow.

I saw Brian Stokes Mitchell in "Kiss Me Kate" and "Kismet". Had tickets to "Man of La Mancha" but it was cancelled during a brief musicians strike.

We're back from Dewey Beach, pumped for an exciting evening of Mets baseball.

J. Reyes might need a day off. Perhaps Monday afternoon.

Shea PA plays Mr. Roboto after Delgado's HR?

How long has this been going on?

KC
Aug 09 2008 05:27 PM

Hard to tell where Delgado's bomb landed ... it may still be in flight.

Carlos in the dugout writing in his note book , maybe I missed it but I have not seen him do that in a long while.

4 run first innings are nice, gives Stokes some breathing room.

Did our pitcher sing the national anthem too?

Smacking Scott Olsen around early and often is definitely worth the price of admission.

Uggla's just going downhill since the All Star Game, isn't he?

Does Keith still work here?

KC

Gotta suck being Keith.

TransMonk
Aug 09 2008 06:49 PM

Fuckbuckets.

Stokes has been pretty good, but 2 two run bombs have tied up this game.

The offense hasn't been helping since the first, either.

KC
Aug 09 2008 06:51 PM

The offense does snooze an awful lot.

Hey, watching the Marlin's catcher's wife in China.

How was Stocker, other than the two-run bombs?

TransMonk
Aug 09 2008 07:05 PM

We plate one in the 6th with the bottom of lineup.

Still only one out runner on 2nd.

seawolf17
Aug 09 2008 07:05 PM

And Tateasley does it again. 5-4 good guys.

Very good, actually. I was impressed. The Jacobs home run was a bad pitch that got crushed. It was one of those old-school Darryl long-swing low-ball home runs.

I wasn't blown away, but he threw strikes. 6 Ks in 5.2 IP.

If he would have gotten through the 6th without giving up the 2 out Jacobs HR, I would have definitely given him a higher grade.

Dan Murphy is a GOD!

seawolf17
Aug 09 2008 07:09 PM

Dan Murphy for MVP.

Crowd's been good tonight -- nice ovation for Stokes when he was removed from the game, then they just asked Murphy for a curtain call.

And one game in NO! He's basically coming up from Double A and doing this. How has he been under the radar? We're lucky he's not a Twin.

Bomb-tran. Woulda been more impressive were Wright not caught stealing in the same AB.

KC
Aug 09 2008 07:29 PM

Anyone think Wright was being head hunted?

That was some filthy high and tight stuff in the high 90's.

I do. And the first pitch after the Murphy homerun was inside to J. Reyes. Someone in teal has to take a seat tonight.

Heilman in for the ninth to get three outs.

I think he does well and we nail this one.

Maybe somebody down there knows a little bit about what they're doing.

Fun game to be at.

Murphy did indeed provide the curtain call, a very nice touch.

Delgado's home run landed beyond the back fence of the Mets bullpen. Was listed on the scoreboard as 445 feet.

Very nice to see Beltran get it going as well. Agree that Reyes could use Monday off.

I actually gasped out loud when the ball from Stokes' first hit bounced off the dugout roof and into the stands.

Ron Darling: "That was the worst thing I ever saw."

AG/DC

Darling seemed to think it was intentional.

Delgado gets a save.

AG/DC
Aug 10 2008 06:47 AM

By the way, how cool and UMDB-friendly is it that the guy gets his first major league game, may never pitch for the Mets again, and gets dressed in a blue cap and pinnies?

Also, I need to tip a cap to Heilman for three straight days of goodness when the Mets need it the most.

Schoeneweis has been quite the vulture lately.
The other day he gets a 1-batter/1-pitch save and now a 1-batter/5-pitch win.

Maybe Stokes sticks around as a long man. It's not like Muniz is filling much of a role right now.
