Ha^.
I haven't gotten to see this Murphy guy play.
Is that a good sample of his fielding?
That ball should have been caught.

Not that one tho, a double past Beltran makes it 0-1 Fishies.

On Murphy:
When was the last time the Mets brought someone up with this kind of mature plate approach? There's always a few guys like Milledge, Gomez, and Fartinez where you can throw out those fun buzzwords like "toolsy" and "projectable," but it feels like we never get to see a guy just pop in and know how to work a count, or be able to go with an outside pitch to the opposite field.

Can't believe they got Reyes on that play.
Nice play. Damn Fish.

Zvon
Aug 10 2008 12:05 PM

Three 2 out singles make it 1-3 Fish.

J.J. has made some perfect pitches to key personal.
So far.
Plenty of time to turn this one around.
Oh, and I concur:
C'mon O!!!

TransMonk
Aug 10 2008 12:28 PM

The way Mike's pitched this inning, it's hard to tell.

TransMonk
Aug 10 2008 12:34 PM

Ugly game for an ugly day.

TransMonk

I don't need to see any more of Carlos Muniz this season.

Frayed Knot
Aug 10 2008 12:54 PM

And it's too late to hope to be saved by rain (which is coming any minute now)

Considering that Maine (Wednesday) and Wagner (week from Monday) are both on target for their scheduled returns, I think you're going to get your wish -- at least until Sept 1.

2-8.
Mets half of the 8th.
Top of the order.

Lets score 8!

Zvon
Aug 10 2008 01:56 PM

Gah.
This was just one a those games.
One a those games you lose.

Final 8-2.

Zvon
Aug 10 2008 02:13 PM

This just happened at the Phils game.

Pitcher Moyer up to bunt over Ruiz who led off the inning with a walk.

Moyer bunts, Pirates pitcher and catcher converge on the ball.

Catcher bumps the pitcher as he's going to throw, his throw sails over 1st basemens head.

Moyer rounds 1st and runs right into the 1st base ump, knocking him flat.

Throw goes to 2nd to try to nab Moyer as Ruiz pulls into third.

Throw to second is bad, off second basemans glove into left.

Moyer goes to third, Ruiz scores tying the game.

Then Rollins drives in Moyer with a simple sac fly.

Phils take a 2-1 lead.

GAH!

The ump gettin run down was kinda funny tho.

This was a great game up until it started. We tailgated, got our bobbleheads, and gave Jane Jarvis some well deserved applause.

After that, it was all downhill....

Great tailgate, the Diamond Knights have the party thing down for sure.

I felt bad for Jane, she deserved much more roar. Hell, we were talking
about the Mets' HOF -- she deserves a bust -- someone start a web-site;
inductjanenowdotcom.

Good day for amenities and hellos; lousy day for baseball.

Watch the replay. They interview Jane around the fourth. For a genuine musician uncerimoniously dumped (at least, I don't remember a ceremony) so some hack DJ could play "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll," she was 100% class.
