IGT - 8/12 - Mets (Santana) vs. Nationals (Perez)

Centerfield
Aug 12 2008 07:46 AM

Time for the Mets to get the bad taste out of their mouths after having blown the lead, then me, then Vic. Blech.

The good news is that the Phils lost last night so no ground was lost. And we're playing the last-place Nationals, and we always beat the last place Nationals.

As relayed in the Snooze today with lefty Odalis Perez going for the Nats, look for Castro to start or else reside deeper in Manuel's doghouse.

Apparently, the medical staff doesn't think Castro's ankle is bad enough to warrant the disabled list, but Castro tells Jerry he's unable to go, and Jerry tells the media that Castro's a pussy.

Keith complaining about being up in the rafters of National Stadium , Zimmerman gets the Nats on the board , 2 - 1 Mets.

Three hits in a row. That happens once a month for Washington.

Tied ball game.....they are slapping Santana around.

Gary took a shot at Castro tonight when giving the line up....." Castro feeling better after Cancel hit a home run yesterday"..

Aug 12 2008 05:55 PM

I love it when Keith gets all highfalutin and starts referencing Verdi.

Frayed Knot
Aug 12 2008 05:58 PM

Verdi and Custer referemces in the same game.

seawolf17
Aug 12 2008 06:00 PM

That was a great fuckin' play by Willie Harris.

Didn't he make a great play against us in another game recently? Maybe as a Brave?

AG/DC
Aug 12 2008 06:06 PM

Yup, as a Brave.

Couldn't catch that liner by Beltran, though.

Nice recovery rally, Mets.

Frayed Knot
Aug 12 2008 06:08 PM

Would have been a monster inning if not for that catch.
Of course the fact that Reyes was on in the first place was a bit of a gift.

AG/DC
Aug 12 2008 06:13 PM

Infield hits by Reyes are the type of luck that's the residue of design.

metsguyinmichigan
Aug 12 2008 06:27 PM

Is Johan not too sharp tonight? I see he hasn't walked anybody, but the hits seem high.

AG/DC
Aug 12 2008 06:32 PM

Well, he just walked Belliard. But then he avenged Harris by getting him to ground into a double play.

Santana doesn't necessarily need his best stuff. He's like Billy Mitchell. He always has a plan.

Gary gives some not so good sounding stats that basically tell us that this team sucks after the first inning.

AG/DC
Aug 12 2008 07:22 PM

I blame the team. Can't be scoring three runs against this staff and expect Santanta to carry you home.

Twenty five players to win.

Aug 12 2008 07:38 PM

And Old Man Hernandez is ranting again.

"BACK IN MY DAY, the umpires never conferred! They stood by their decisions!"

seawolf17
Aug 12 2008 07:38 PM

Manny Acta doing his best Earl Weaver, arguing the bases loaded HBP (or was it a wild pitch?) of Easley.

seawolf17
Aug 12 2008 07:39 PM

And yes, it hit him in the helmet, as the replay shows.

4-3 Good Guys.

Frayed Knot
Aug 12 2008 07:41 PM

My first reaction is that it hit his helmet

seawolf17 wrote:

And I pretty much agree with him. Most announcers praise all this umpire cooperation stuff but I think they over-do it and Hernandez is the only one (at least that I've heard) who says that decision-by-committee isn't necc the best way to go.

seawolf17
Aug 12 2008 07:42 PM

Santana's in the hole, with his bat and his helmet, chomping at the bit to get up there. Sandy Alomar is holding him back.

"Eff you, Sandy, I'm hitting. I'm not letting Heilman blow this effing game for me. I'll pitch twelve innings, I don't care."

seawolf17
Aug 12 2008 07:43 PM

When you want a hit in a big spot, you send up Brian Schneider.

AG/DC
Aug 12 2008 07:50 PM

Yes you can. Or you can pinch hit for Castro and let Santana bat.

Or you can pinch hit for nobody.

Let's go, Pen!

They wanted a lefty bat there against the RH reliever Rivera.

I don't mind the pinch hitting for Castro there but I'd have like to seen Santana with the bat and two out. Has Schneider hit any better than Johan this year?

Well you can wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up first.

Feliciano to start against the lefty Harris, whom I detest.

Aug 12 2008 08:14 PM

Big win.

Keith needs to stop complaining about the press box. I really like that it's above the paying customer's seats. Unfortunately, SNY seems unable to figure out that they should put the camera lower than that spot though.

Manny Acta (arguing about the HBP) will feel foolish once he sees that replay.

Visit the Nats park and you see that it's towering.

It's almost like five levels behind home plate.

Aw shucks. I'm going Thursday (they're on their own tomorrow). The most subded Mets crowd in DC that I've ever seen. There was definitely a carry-over for us from yesterday's debacle. It was a nice night, and I was with my older son, watching my favorite team, but I was uneasy all night, like I'm sure you were, waiting for the bullpen for blow it. The game was 2:57 but it felt much longer.

The Natiionals scoreboard is great. The Wilpon's should see it. The Nationals had all the right information on one board.

The out-of-town board said that the Atlanta game was "DR." Never "P" or "Postponed." I assume that "DR" meant "Delayed Rain." The Florida game was "IR" which I assumed meant "Interrupted Rain." "R" would have done the trick.

The woman behind me talked (and talked) about her friends "Dusty", "Bunny" and "Savannah." I wanted to ask her if all her friends were strippers.

It was nice when there were two outs in the bottom of the 9th. All the Mets fan rose, like it was Shea.

AG/DC
Aug 12 2008 09:49 PM

My friend Jill couldn't be more respectable. So, no, I don't know how she ended up with two best friends named Brandi and Misty. Funny world.

what you didn't realize is that the Atlanta game was being played in the Dominican Republic and the Florida game was on Injured Reserve.
