We're off to a flying start on MASN: Don Sutton pronounced A. Reyes' first name as "AR-JEN-IS."

TransMonk
Aug 13 2008 05:24 PM

Well, we only scored one in the first.

Sutton sucks horsecock.

TransMonk
Aug 13 2008 05:55 PM

5-0 now in the 3rd.

Nat's pitcher Bergmann walks Maine with the bases loaded.

themetfairy
Aug 13 2008 05:56 PM

7-0

Everyone scores - Woo Hoo!

Busted open.....

TransMonk
Aug 13 2008 05:57 PM

I want more. No lead is safe.

metsguyinmichigan
Aug 13 2008 05:59 PM

Opened: One can of whoop-ass!

TransMonk
Aug 13 2008 06:00 PM

Bergmann: 75 pitches through 2.2 innings.

Delgado now up with sacs drunk.

metirish
Aug 13 2008 06:02 PM

Looks like Bergman is going to take one for the team and suck this up.

metsguyinmichigan
Aug 13 2008 06:03 PM

He wants to test our bullpen. "See if you can blow THIS one!"

TransMonk
Aug 13 2008 06:04 PM

10-0. I want more.

metsguyinmichigan
Aug 13 2008 06:06 PM

Beltran doubles! Nice! He didn't want to make an out and get tagged with seven men LOB this game.

Maine must be loving this.

Now, you you pull him after five to rest him, or do you let him go and rest the pen?

while the main guys in the pen could certainly use some rest, this might be the time to have Stokes throw 3 or 4 innings and save everyone

Hey guys, checkin in.

Holy shit!

metsguyinmichigan
Aug 13 2008 06:18 PM

Good call on Stokes! In fact, let him and Muniz have some fun. Send Smith, Feliciano and Heilman back to the hotel - now!

TransMonk
Aug 13 2008 06:27 PM

I think Maine took Muniz's roster spot.

Nymr83
Aug 13 2008 06:29 PM

muniz was sent down.

themetfairy
Aug 13 2008 06:38 PM

The camera angle from the top of Nationals Park makes me dizzy.

Teddy Roosevelt is now 0-178 in the Presidents Race.

Well, we probably won't see him tonight then.

TR is getting hosed!

Too bad the Mets can't do something cool to commemorate the only Long Island president!

Methead
Aug 13 2008 06:45 PM

Danny Boy!

TransMonk
Aug 13 2008 06:45 PM

The rookie goes KABOOM the other way.

12-0 Us.

themetfairy
Aug 13 2008 06:45 PM

Maybe they can let Teddy pull down a number. At least he isn't a Lincoln Mercury dealer.

Murphy's Ka-Boom makes it 12-0 Mets!

metsguyinmichigan
Aug 13 2008 06:46 PM

MURPHY!!!!

I like this kid!

seawolf17
Aug 13 2008 06:48 PM

No pressure tonight, Phillies.

None whatsoever.

...

The Metsies are coming.

TransMonk
Aug 13 2008 06:57 PM

Yeah...after listening to Sutton tonight, I might have to get me some Scully later.

Nymr83
Aug 13 2008 07:03 PM

maine gets pinch-hit for in the top of the 6th. good move by jerry.
now lets see stokes go 4 innings even if he gives up 7 or 8 runs in the process.
if i'm the manager here stokes stays in this game until/unless he has the tying run on-deck against him.

And then I'm just letting the Nats hit off a tee, because the rest of my bullpen is locked in the clubhouse bathroom until they get Tug McGraw out of the cryogenic chamber.

Frayed Knot
Aug 13 2008 07:09 PM

12 run lead ... 3 innings to go ... we're into the bullpen

I think we have an outside shot at winning this one!!

Nymr83
Aug 13 2008 07:13 PM

stokes throws a 7 pitch inning. this could be what the doctor ordered for the met bullpen.

Nymr83
Aug 13 2008 07:14 PM

may i suggest Chavez in LF, Murphy shifting to 3B, and Wright taking a nap?

Good call. And take Reyes with him.

Nymr83
Aug 13 2008 07:31 PM

yeah easley at 2nd, argenis at ss? or the other way around?

metsguyinmichigan
Aug 13 2008 07:38 PM

Cardinals up 4-2...

AG/DC
Aug 13 2008 07:42 PM

I come home and mets.com leads with this:

Righty John Maine can cruise with a comfortable lead after the Mets plated eight runs off Nationals starter Jason Bergmann in a huge third inning in Washington.
I'm thinking "What Met team have you been watching? There's no cruising."

Then I open Gameday and see it's 12-0 in the eighth.

OK, I think, maybe you can cruise a little.

A little.

TransMonk
Aug 13 2008 07:46 PM

Stokes or Kunz for the ninth?

AG/DC
Aug 13 2008 07:49 PM

Maybe you want to get Kunz in the habit of walking off a big league mound and shaking people's hands.

Can't argue with that! Then he can tell Heilman what it's like.

TransMonk
Aug 13 2008 07:57 PM

Stokes in line for the rare 3+ inning save, though.

TransMonk
Aug 13 2008 08:03 PM

That was such a drubbing that I almost feel dirty about it.

Now, that's how a contending team should play against the worst team in the league.

Taking Care Of Business!

metsguyinmichigan
Aug 13 2008 08:04 PM

And gets it! Nice job tonight. Plenty of beer to spread around!

AG/DC
Aug 13 2008 08:04 PM

Wonder who the last Met to get a 3+ inning mopup save was.

I'll guess Terry Leach.

metirish
Aug 13 2008 08:05 PM

Had we only two strike outs all night?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Aug 13 2008 08:15 PM

Howie and Wayne were talking classic TV of the 60s in the 7th in this one.

Onward

AG/DC
Aug 13 2008 08:15 PM

And a booty-rockin' 11 walks.

I've got Terry Leach coming in for a four-inning save on August 8, 1985 against the Nats' Montreal predecessors:

http://ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=3790

And again on May 4, 1988, against Houston:

http://ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=4209

Don't know if he's the last, though.

Gwreck
Aug 13 2008 08:31 PM

Didn't Pedro Feliciano get a 3+ inning save back in '03 or '04 with the Mets?

Edit: Nope. Not sure who I'm thinking of.

Allen Watson, 1999.

i love tension-free games like this.

AG/DC
Aug 14 2008 08:27 AM

Watson stopped at three innings though.
