We should have got a reliever along with Santana...

Following Gerut's ninth inning home run off Schoeneweis, Gary Cohen had this to say which pretty well sums up what must be a frustrating season for Santana:

"For the sixth time this season, the Mets bullpen has let a Johan Santana lead get away. Six times in twenty-three starts...that's more than the Minnesota bullpen blew in Johan's last one hundred starts for the Twins." - Gary Cohen

Wow! Maybe Omar should have picked up one of the Twins relievers when he made the blockbuster trade for Johan Santana this offseason.

I saw a scroll today that in 19 of his 23 starts Santana has given up 3 or fewer runs, obviously the bullpen is a weak point right now.

Of course that is not all on the bullpen , offense too.

Maybe we should have reaquired Chad Bradford, whom the Orioles just dealt to a team in their own division.

Should be a good pick up for Tampa.

I was going to try to defend the Met bullpen by pointing out that Santana probably went much deeper into games in the DH league.

Unfortunately, the facts beg to differ -

Santana with Minnesota 2005-2007 - 100 starts, 684.333 innings, 6.843 innings per start

Santana with the Mets - 24 starts, 161 innings, 6.708 innings per start

And I want to blame the offense but they are averaging the same amount of rpg in Santana starts as non-Santana starts; in fact, slightly more overall (4.9 rpg Santana; 4.8 rpg overall).
