You're exiled to a desert island and forced to take along a mix tape that includes one (1) song from noted Canadian banshee Alanis Morrissette.

Isn't that ironic?

No? Well, choose anyway. Write-ins accepted.

a) Ironic

b) Hand in My Pocket

c) Head Over Foot

d) Underneath (the new single!)

e) Hands Clean

f) Thank U

g) You Oughta Know

h) Everything

None of the above... "All I Really Want"

Fucking great song.

You know I was gonna include that one in the choices but didn't wanna overwhelm the electorate. That's why I said write-ins accepted.

You Oughta Know - good poll this week and I struggled to choose one song.

I think "Thank U" is awesome. Other than that, I like "Invited" from at Meg Ryan movie.

I also think "Thank You" is awesome. That's my vote. Though I hafta say I got inspired to publish this Poll after hearing and enjoying "Hand in My Pocket" for the first time in many moons the other day.

Funny but I was going to choose " Thank You". I saw her on RAVE (HD Music Channel) last week doing a live show , she looks hot and sounded great.

She kind of briefly filled the niche that Sinead O'Connor carved and quickly abandoned --- nasally Celtic wailer with anger issues. Chicks could relate. Men, well, it's hard to resist the novelty value of some of those songs, now that they aren't wall-papering the radio like they were 12-13 years ago.

Releasing an acoustic remake of the entire album, initially available exclusively at Starbucks, kind fo tells you how contercultural she really was in the end.

I could never enjoy "Ironic" because she clearly doesn't know what the word means. It would drive my copy editor wife nuts!

Irish and Seawolf similarity score goes up yet again.

in order to choose one i would have to listen to them, and i dont want to subject myself to that.

You think maybe she was being ironic by writing a song about irony in which none of the examples were ironic? That's very meta.

No, I think you're right.

OK, but these are 12-year-old routines.

I'd like to stab Duaner Sanchez in the heart but I only have 10,000 spoons.

Plus she gave her generation their "You're So Vain" with "You Oughta Know."

Speaking of which, watch the Curb Your Enthusiam episode with Alanis. It deals with the whole song and "secret" of who should "oughta know."

Another song with poor grammar that drives her nuts: Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac, an otherwise great song...

Time casts a spell on you, but you won't forget me
I know I could have loved you, but you would not let me
I'll follow you down til' the sound of my voice will haunt you
You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you

It should be "the woman WHO loves you" of course. Sends her into a rant every time. As does "Ironic"

How does she feel about "this ever changing world in which we live in"?

To be fair, song lyrics, as a form of poetry, aren't subject to grammatical rules in the same sense.

Actually, yeah, she does. Stipe's words are so garbled that she can't tell if he's being correct or not!
