Nice interview with Chipper in the pre-game. I think he secretly wishes he
was a Met playing at Shea for a good part of his career instead of Atlanta.

And hot crap if we couldn't have used him for some of those years.

Elster88
Aug 20 2008 05:07 PM

I still don't like him.

TransMonk
Aug 20 2008 05:11 PM

I saw the interview and thought it was interesting too.

Kinda backhandedly threw Atlanta fans under the bus.

Still, It's hard for me to feel sorry for him while his team is not winning after all of those division championships.

After all these years, I don't hate Chipper as much as I used to, though.

He could have been helpful in LF this season. Now excuse me, but I have to go take a shower. I feel dirty for coveting Larry.

Elster88
Aug 20 2008 05:15 PM

Unless you scrub like Ace Ventura did I doubt you'll feel better.

KC
Aug 20 2008 05:16 PM

I would really like to meet Elster88 at Shea before she closes.

Note to self: start final regular season last game tailgate party thread soon.

Elster88
Aug 20 2008 05:28 PM

I've yet to meet any CPFers. Maybe that's good for my own safety.

If not at Shea than at City Field or the CPF picnic.

Quick. Somebody set McDowell's foot on fire.

Aug 20 2008 05:31 PM

To quote CookieMom (though she said it for David Wright).

I love that boy.

Aug 20 2008 05:32 PM

Thanks to you, too, Chipper.

TransMonk
Aug 20 2008 05:35 PM

I think the Braves are already in the off-season this inning.

AG/DC
Aug 20 2008 05:36 PM

Man, Norton had all day to go up and get that ball.

Where is she these days?

A 2 out, 5 run rally will always make me smile.

AG/DC
Aug 20 2008 05:44 PM

Two tricky catches make me smile too. They're playing some baseball tonight.

Catch Gary's Beatle reference?

Fun that MLB.com has Ken Griffey telling me where to buy muy Cincinnati Reds gear.

Tell me that Omar sounds stupid here.

E88: I've yet to meet any CPFers. Maybe that's good for my own safety<<<

Yes, we're a scary bunch. Axe murderers the whole lot of us.

¿Por qué?

I walked away for 5 minutes. I come back and the Mets have added a run.

No mention of D Wrights KABOOM anywhere here. I had to look up the boxscore.

Tsk.

Impressive shot. Went down and got a low inside delivery and whacked it into the picnic seats.

Meantime, Pelf gets a big (run-scoring) DP

Meanwhile things are not going so smoothly right now.

TransMonk
Aug 20 2008 06:40 PM

Wild pitch makes it 6-3, but Pelf out of the inning.

Thanks, for the recap, JCL.

KC
Aug 20 2008 06:51 PM

Shower some love on Big Pelf.

TransMonk
Aug 20 2008 07:08 PM

Pelfrey 96 pitches through 8.

Who gets the ninth?

metirish
Aug 20 2008 07:08 PM

Pelfrey I think.

KC
Aug 20 2008 07:10 PM

Gotta run Pelf out, unless the Mets run a six run long inning or something.

TransMonk
Aug 20 2008 07:13 PM

Pelf it is...with no one warming.

AG/DC
Aug 20 2008 07:17 PM

Most thrilling at-bat of Chipper's Shea career right there.

I'd love the UMDB to tell me when the last time was the Mets clocked a game that short.

Bullpen can't blow the game if you don't use the bullpen.

Great job by Pelf.

G-Fafif
Aug 20 2008 07:34 PM

I have 2:03 for dismal loss at Philly, 8/16/06.

G-Fafif
Aug 20 2008 07:36 PM

Last regulation (not rain-shortened) win shorter: 9/16/05, Pedro blanks Braves at Shea 4-0 in 2:04. Mets lost to Braves at Shea in 1:59 on 4/19/06, which is tough to do as the home team.

I check the score of the Mets game shortly after 4 AM here in Israel and find that the game's already over. Great job by Pelfrey. The Santana trade is looking better and better by the fact that we kept him out of it.

Nymr83
Aug 20 2008 07:42 PM

shove pitch count up your ass as Pelfrey throws 108 and goes the whole way.

thats 2 recent games now where the bullpen has had the day off, 3 if you count Maine's start being finished by 4 innings of Brian Stokes. lets see if the rest does them any good, i think it will.

Followed this one on my cell phone from the Trenton Thunder game. Congrats to Pelf on his first Major League complete game!
