The Mets are on a hot streak. They are seeking their 10th win in their last 12 games as they send John Maine out to oppose RHP Brandon Backe.

The first inning was as dead as the pool, as both teams go quietly with 1-2-3 innings.

Berkman opens the second with a leadoff double. Blum follows with a single and the Astros lead 1-0.

It does not appear that John Maine is having a good game.

32 Mets out in a row.

Yep...Backe has a NO-HITTER through the first four.

Wigginton never made a play for the Mets like Wright just made on him.

Fourteen up and down for Backe.

There goes the perfect game. Let's get it going!

Murphy draws a walk and is the first baserunner in in like eleven or twelve innings.

If Newhan can hit a homerun, then Maine's not right.

AG/DC
Aug 23 2008 06:37 PM

Maine's got a nasty big chunk a chew in his mouth, and he's giving up homers to stringers.

I see a link.

Mets biggest comeback ever was against the Astros.

In CPF history, has there every been an IGT that was only one page?

AG/DC
Aug 23 2008 07:31 PM

Oh, yeah. But this'll make page two.

AG/DC
Aug 23 2008 07:43 PM

OK, here we go. You'll be telling your grandkids about this inning.

Boo. Churchy ends it with a GiDP.

Boy, are you going to bore your grandkids telling them about that inning.

AG/DC
Aug 23 2008 08:19 PM

Well, Smith and Stokes took it home with three hitless and walkless innings.

Schnied's been our best hitter for the last week, which is somewhat troubling. Our success until tonight has disguised some shaky O. Too many near perfect games.

I was there , section 2, row C upper tank right behind Home Plate. It was Irish night and it was ugly. Backe was great but the Mets were swinging at first pitches all night.

Which underscores what a godsend Murphy has been to this team. He works three balls seemingly every trip up there. He had the only two walks tonight.

He should be the hitting coach. Make Mine Murphy.

Maybe Murphy can be inducted into the Irish American BB Hall of Fame? After all, it was ('twas?) Irish night at Shea, and he is at least as servicable as John Flaherty.

The IGT last night at www.theganggreen.com was 20 pages. We had to pad to get to two.

I quickly went through the 20 page Jets/Giants IGT , 20 pages of crap and graphics.

I'd like the Crane Pool to be a little busier, but I don't want to sacrifice thoughtful, quality posting for innane, pointless posts. Not that we (as a forum) are immune to pointless posts, but overall I find the level of writing and thought provoking discussion on the CPF to exceed that found at many sites that I have visited over the years.

Agreed... it's just that one page struck me as unusually small.

When I started this IGT, I think I may have been the only person online at the time. Then the Astros jumped on Maine and the game turned ugly quite early, which likely kept others from joining in. I know it drove me away and to the yard work I needed to get done.
