My friend Fred is copying my 3-generational "farewell to Shea" trip today as he, his father, and his son, drove from Maryland to see the game. As with "my game", Ollie is pitching. I hope he has as good a time and as good a game.

Talk of Maine being shut down for the season.
:(

.......Bring it on Asstros.

Zvon
Aug 24 2008 11:15 AM

Nice 1st for perez.
2 Ks and a foul pop out.

Looks like he has some good zip.
And he's rearing up a little more in his windup than I've seen previously.

Aug 24 2008 11:19 AM

When you have J. Reyes' speed, and can steal bases the way he can, it's a bad move to take that chance.

Zvon
Aug 24 2008 11:21 AM

Tsk,tsk.
Stupid move JReyes.

Leads off with a single and tries to tag to second on a average fly out to center by Evans. With Mr Wright up next.

Silly boy.

I was gonna say the real problem there was Evans' failing to hit it over the fence. Boy is a warning-track-specialist so far!

Dear Derek,

No, we will never, ever, go to your website. Not lately, not ever.

Enjoy having October off.

Yours truly,

Mets Fans

Shoulda,coulda,woulda had 3.

2-0 us after one complete.

Ollie adding that Mussina-bow into his windup now.

bmfc1
Aug 24 2008 11:35 AM

Way to go Ollie!

Zvon
Aug 24 2008 11:36 AM

Wow. Wiggy stranded after a lead off double.
Nice job Ollie.

Kiner koming.

Zvon
Aug 24 2008 11:45 AM

Looking forward to hearing Ralph's voice.

OlerudOwned
Aug 24 2008 11:47 AM

Nice touch for Jewish Heritage Day, or whatever they're calling it.

No Mike Jacobs tees, unfortunately.

OlerudOwned
Aug 24 2008 11:50 AM

Why does Wright even bother wearing a glove?

AG/DC
Aug 24 2008 11:56 AM

Ralph took batting practice in the minors from Burleigh Grimes.

All these years and there's new stuff I'm learning from Ralph.

I'm loving this spit/scuffball discussion between Keith and Ralph. Especially because I'm in the middle of reading the Neyer/James Guide to Pitchers.

(Access to a major university library is something I can get used to.)

OlerudOwned
Aug 24 2008 12:00 PM

Juuuust foul. Delgado's been absolutely outstanding going to the opposite field, though. Biggest factor in his turnaround?

OlerudOwned
Aug 24 2008 12:01 PM

Ralph isn't here to BS around, listen to him bust out Tatis's career numbers versus Wolf.

TransMonk
Aug 24 2008 12:05 PM

Nice play, Loretta.

AG/DC
Aug 24 2008 12:10 PM

Ralph isn't kicking back either. He's keeping his own scorecard.

OlerudOwned
Aug 24 2008 12:14 PM

Smoke 'em inside.

AG/DC
Aug 24 2008 12:14 PM

How about Ollie blowing the cheese by Wiggers?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Aug 24 2008 12:19 PM

How about Hunter Pence tying it up? Dag

OlerudOwned
Aug 24 2008 12:20 PM

Good thing I held my tongue about how disappointing of a season Pence is having. That would've been embarrassing.

TransMonk
Aug 24 2008 12:29 PM

Let's get some more runs, O!

Nonsense. Beltran hit that one righthanded. Zvon's slipping.

How about Ralph sticking around?

Zvon
Aug 24 2008 01:11 PM

GREAT throw by Tatis.

I can't take Heilman anymore.
I just can't take it.

I know he has had some good showings here and there....

but I just can't take him anymore.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Aug 24 2008 01:13 PM

What could fucking newhan have against us?

Zvon
Aug 24 2008 01:17 PM

Lil late with this...

He walks Bourn. Gah

But he gets out of what could have been a worse inning.

4-4, Mets.

It's Jewish Day. He's inspired.

(Nick Evans comes to the plate to "Mary Jane's Last Dance"? Ugh.)

I've really tried to take what he gives us in stride.
But he gives up way too much.
I've had enough.

Hey, if they are gonna shut down Maine cuzza that shoulder spur then try Heilman in the rotation. If he don't go 8 and keep us in the ball game get the fuck rid of him.

AG/DC
Aug 24 2008 01:31 PM

No, don't take it. Love it.

bmfc1
Aug 24 2008 01:34 PM

Schoenweis did well too, on Jewish Heritage Day.

Zvon

="AG/DC"]No, don't take it. Love it.

I don't like or love taking things in that cavity of my anatomy.

Don't mind me, I'm just blowing off steam.
I know the boat we're in and pitching will make or break us, and the options are ooohhhh sooo limited.

I think its the possibility of Maine going down that is really bothering/worrying me.

bmfc1
Aug 24 2008 01:53 PM

Time for a walk-off win! "We've got the team work, to make the dream work...."

Murphy's AB music is "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" by the Dropkick Murphys

AG/DC
Aug 24 2008 01:57 PM

Let's not ship him up to Boston.

And let's lay off the "Danny Boy" in the booth, Gary.

bmfc1
Aug 24 2008 02:03 PM

Ausmus does it on Jewish Heritage Day. Unbelievable.

Zvon
Aug 24 2008 02:04 PM

Unfreakin believable.
Asstros Assmus's 2nd homer all year.

Zvon

Erstad may as well hit his 3rd homer of the year here.
Yea, why not.

bmfc1
Aug 24 2008 02:08 PM

Newhan's homer was his 1st of the year; Ausmus hit his 2nd; Erstad hit his 3rd. Mighty nice of the Mets to be such gracious hosts for such lousy hitters.

Zvon
Aug 24 2008 02:11 PM

Okay.
Top of the order.

We can get 2 to keep it alive, or 3 to win.
I'm not picky.
Either would suffice.

LETS...

Houston's big guns not even in the game and they beat us with long balls.

Agreed. Bad loss. This one hurts and makes tomorrow's game a big one.

Bad weekend for the Mets. The Astros come to town with Carlos Lee and Kaz Matsui on the Dl. Today the opt to give Berkman a day off and the Mets still find a way to lose. Tough to lose to sluggers like Newhan and Asmus.

Six head-to-head games so far:

Mets pen v Astros: 17.1 IP; 19 H; 10 ER; 6 BB; 10 K; 4 HRs; 1.44 WHiP; 5.19 ERA
(plus at least 2 inherited runs allowed)

'Stros pen v Mets: 17 IP; 6 H; 0 ER; 3 BB; 10 K; 0 HRs; 0.53 WHiP; 0.00 ERA

I think I may have identified a source of our troubles
