If you don't see nobility in the resilience against their own self-destructive nature, you ain't paying attention.

I'll take a split here.

Beltran grounds out to end the first but I have to say I'm seeing an extra level of intensity from Carlos last few, and I like it.
G-Fafif Aug 27 2008 05:28 PM |
Is there anything less congruous than picking a guy off first and the guy stealing second anyway?
holychicken Aug 27 2008 05:29 PM |

Is that what happened? damn. . .
bmfc1 Aug 27 2008 05:30 PM |
Sonofabitch. They had the pickoff.

Citizens Bank Park, if you hadn't heard, is built directly on top of an abandoned air hockey table.
Zvon Aug 27 2008 05:31 PM |
...maybe a guy whose gonna strike out over 200 times this season going yard on ya?
Zvon Aug 27 2008 05:32 PM |

Got free tix from a colleague. Funny here when Sir Sidney is walking the park. There's an eerie sense of dread here, like they know their season's over... especially when your must-win game starter is Sidney Ponson.
Zvon Aug 27 2008 06:52 PM |
I think I just heard a loud noise......
G-Fafif Aug 27 2008 06:52 PM |
Carlos Delgado hits it out of Citizens Bank Park, Veterans Stadium, Connie Mack Stadium and the Baker Bowl. The Phillies can't build or borrow a home that can contain Carlos Delgado.
G-Fafif Aug 27 2008 06:54 PM |
And Ben Chapman was a racist.
Gwreck Aug 27 2008 07:19 PM |
It would be great if Schneider could do something productive.
Frayed Knot Aug 27 2008 07:29 PM |
Scott Eyre had a 1.8 WHiP last season. This year he pitched 11 innings with the Cubs and gave up 9 runs.
Frayed Knot Aug 27 2008 07:41 PM |
Gotta do something in this here 8th inning.

The official scorer at the game should charge those runs to Charlie Manuel.
Frayed Knot Aug 27 2008 07:58 PM |
Whole lotta baseball still to play here folks.
TransMonk Aug 27 2008 07:58 PM |
6 outs left with a 3 run lead.
Fman99 Aug 27 2008 07:58 PM |
What we need, now, is six outs.
AG/DC Aug 27 2008 07:59 PM |
Danke schoen, Herr Schneider!
metsguyinmichigan Aug 27 2008 07:59 PM |
Schneid!! He's been swinging!
Rockin' Doc Aug 27 2008 08:01 PM |
I remember needing just 6 more outs last night. Hopefully, it will go much better for the Mets pen tonight.
Frayed Knot Aug 27 2008 08:02 PM |
Hey, Feliciano got out a first batter.
Fman99 Aug 27 2008 08:03 PM |

Fman99 Aug 27 2008 08:08 PM |
Smith gets stoopid Jayson Werth with one pitch.
TheOldMole Aug 27 2008 08:08 PM |
One more inning of relief to go.
Zvon Aug 27 2008 08:08 PM |
"One pitch" Smith.
Frayed Knot Aug 27 2008 08:09 PM |
I just might give Wright some beer for that play even though he's pretty much taken this series off otherwise.
Zvon Aug 27 2008 08:12 PM |
Reyes with his 174th hit of the season.
Rockin' Doc Aug 27 2008 08:13 PM |
Nice start to the ninth as Reyes singles. Let's tack on at least one more run this inning.
Frayed Knot Aug 27 2008 08:13 PM |
Wasted bunt IMO
Rockin' Doc Aug 27 2008 08:17 PM |
A sac bunt by Castillo. Now there's a surprise. Now I feel almost certain that Reyes gets stranded. The Mets percentage of runners scored following a sac bunt seems low to me. Maybe because BIFL.
metsguyinmichigan Aug 27 2008 08:18 PM |
Make 'em pay for that intentional walk!
Fman99 Aug 27 2008 08:19 PM |
Whiff.
Elster88 Aug 27 2008 08:20 PM |
Am I crazy, or should we let Joe Smith start the ninth? We got all lefties coming up? I'd hate to run out of pitchers again.
metsguyinmichigan Aug 27 2008 08:20 PM |
Who comes out for the ninth? Ayala?
cooby Aug 27 2008 08:22 PM |
Okay, I am staying up for this thing; I am not facing my Phillies fan friends in the mornings by admitting that I don't know how it ended.
Frayed Knot Aug 27 2008 08:22 PM |
I was thinking the same thing. 3 RHBs coming up - go to Ayala at the first sign of trouble but let Smith find that trouble first. And one-pitch/one-out as I type that.
Rockin' Doc Aug 27 2008 08:23 PM |
A lead off + sac bunt to give away an out = BIFL
Fman99 Aug 27 2008 08:23 PM |
One more out.
metsguyinmichigan Aug 27 2008 08:24 PM |
That's two!!!

Unbelievable. This is like the first time in three years that I turned on the TV, saw them losing, then they come back to win.

Edgy. Prescient.

Who are you, Hillary? Nice reversal tonight. Starter = 6 IPs, 3 runs vs Relievers = 3 IPs, 0 runs and Hitters = 1 run early vs 5 runs late It's like I don't know who they are anymore.
cooby Aug 27 2008 08:50 PM |

Ha! PSU vs Syracuse Sept something. You and me, soupcan. (Hillary?)
soupcan Aug 27 2008 08:51 PM |
This team is really fucking schizo.

I'm there baby.
Centerfield Aug 27 2008 08:54 PM |
I can't believe how pumped I am after this win. Worst loss of the season last night, best win of the season tonight. If you're going to have them in back-to-back games, better to get the win going into the off-day.
Centerfield Aug 27 2008 08:54 PM |
Have you seen the football team lately? I'll be far far away.

Elster88 Aug 27 2008 08:58 PM |

Happened in our last trip to Philly too. And how about this game where we blew the lead in Philly and still won: http://www.ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=7482
Hey we just played one like that! http://www.ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=7520 Or this one in Philly http://www.ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=7481 You know what? I like this team. Sue me.
AG/DC Aug 27 2008 09:09 PM |
Yup. The day-to-day sense of resiliency they've fostered is what sets this team apart from the Mets of the last six weeks of last year. I like it a lot.
Elster88 Aug 27 2008 09:20 PM |
Delgado giving a long interview.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 27 2008 09:25 PM |
The fact that they play good defense night in and night out is a major aid to resiliency.
seawolf17 Aug 27 2008 09:38 PM |
Fun IGT, everyone. I was honored to be the Mets' rep tonight at MFY Stadium II for the collapse of the great Yankees. While the Yankee fans were streaming from the park in the top of the eighth, I was following along on my phone to the goings-on in Philly.

Whats worse than watching the Mets win a great game at Shea with all the crap they throw at you?
metirish Aug 28 2008 06:37 AM |
Love it. I tell ya I am sick and tired of Jimmy Rollins , when did he become the fun police , he's been complaining again at how the Mets celebrate.
soupcan Aug 28 2008 06:46 AM |
But...that's what they are trying to reproduce. You could have gone to a movie or stayed home and watched on TV and had the experience you want. I guess. Not certain what you were looking for.
SteveJRogers Aug 28 2008 10:11 AM |
Sports bar type of event. Maybe when radio or TV stations do live remotes, or have staffers make an apperance at something. Basically the game is on and that is the main attraction, but the other things are things that you'd get if you went to an SNY (or a Silverman/JCLB or Forum Meetup) bar party to watch the game. Have someone, or more appear for the whole game, do a running commentary during the game from that person(s), more interactive Q&A, etc. I think my problem is not that it was like being at Shea, but more that they brought just about all of the annoying things ABOUT Shea in 2008. The Party Patrol, the "Everybody Clap Your Hands," the "Dance Off," the "8th Inning Sing-a-long," the 7th inning stretch song, etc.
