]Jones is also working on getting a ballpark remnant from the Mets, perhaps a seat or a sign. He'd better be paying the same prices we are. On second thought, I guess we can give him a urinal from the upper deck if he really wants.

Larry was the one non-former Met/Jet employee, fan or scribe to be interviewed for that "Goodbye Shea" DVD that came out earlier this summer.

He's got an option for next year with ATL. I'd be really shocked if he left Atlanta at this point in his career. He's got the whole Ripken, Gwynn, Biggio thing going on down there.

I'm sure there's a bunch of Met fans who would allow Chipper to have their seat as a collectable. Of course they'd give it to him by hurlng it out of the upper-deck while he wasn't looking but, hey, it's the thought that counts.

This is getting ridiculous now with Chipper (joking). ] Shea Stadium fate hits Atlanta Brave Chipper Jones hard BY KRISTIE ACKERT DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Friday, August 22nd 2008, 12:23 AM Chipper Jones has been thinking about his final chapter at Shea Stadium. As the number of games left at the old stadium where he hit his first major league home run wind down, the Braves slugger could not help but envision a proper ending to his run here when the Braves make their final trip to Shea next month. "I think it would be pretty cool to be the last guy to hit a home run in this ballpark," Jones said with a laugh. "I think that the odds of that are pretty slim to none. "But even to hit a home run here in my last at-bat here would be awfully special." Shea has always been special to Jones. He has played better here than any other road stadium, hitting .310 with 19 home runs and 53 RBI over the last 13 years. He has gone from the antagonist who told Mets fans they could "go home and put on their Yankee" gear on after beating the Mets in the playoffs to being cheered by onlookers in Mets jerseys in last month's All-Star parade in Manhattan. And while he hopes to continue the now-affectionate rivalry with Mets fans into Citi Field next season, he is sorry to see the closing of his "home away from home." He said he will be among the first to purchase seats from the stadium when they go on sale on the Mets' Web site Monday morning at 9. "I am hoping to get a seat with a number 10 on it, " Jones said, referring to his jersey number. "I'd also like to get something blue and orange and something that says Shea Stadium on it. "I have a corner in my basement, my sanctuary, for all my Shea memorabilia." Jones and his wife, Sharon, named their soon-to-be 4-year-old son Shea. "We both liked the name and it just seemed the perfect name," he said. "It was just right to name him after this place." Jones carries with him a shotgun cartridge that he found in Shea's left field. It was left over from the 21-gun salute that was part of the ceremony before the first game played here after 9/11. "I take it with me everywhere," Jones said. "It was a special night." Jones said he will bring his son Shea here when the Braves return next month. "I want him to be able to at least look out at the parking lot and remember the place he was named for," said Jones. "And then he can go out and create as much havoc there as I have always tried to do here."

Let me have it if you must, but I like Chipper. He's been an awesome player year after year, loyal to his team, plays any position they ask him to, dangerous left and right, future HOFer. Shirley he's more admirable than Glavine and Brian Jordan and Keith Lockhart and John Rocker and...

He is. And he's one of those guys I'd root for if he were on the Mets. (Glavine was too, and I rooted for him while he was here. He didn't piss me off until he sucked against Florida last September then went running back to his old boyfriend in Atlanta). It's strange how some Met-Killers fall into "I hate him because he's good" versus "I hate him because he's a vile human being." Chipper and we are growing unconscionably soft in our old age. Upon his first at-bat Tuesday night, I'm pretty sure I saw him grinning and exchanging a "there they go again" word with Ramon Castro as he soaked up the boos. I'm inclined to stand and ovate on his final Shea plate appearance as well, but somehow it might be more appropriate to the occasion to catcall him out as never before.

His petty clips at David Wright for getting the Gold Glove last year kind of sucked, especially for a guy for has an MVP award for essentially one series against us. He's still Chipper Freaking Jones for 1998 and 1999. That still smarts.
