Rakin' in the Dough

I don't know why, but I thought it would be interesting to see who the highest paid players were currently scheduled to be in the years forward. It wasn't that interesting but I thought I'd publish it anyway.

You get a few years into the future and there are only a handful of men already under contract for those years. Asterisks denote guys who have an option for those years, and the salary listed for them is only for the guaranteed buyout if the option isn't exercised.

A few things are clear:

  1. Latinos, foreign-born and domestic, are scoring the big change

  2. For a famously aggressive team in an ongoing arms race, the Red Sox aren't staring down the barrel of any guns

  3. At the end of his career, A-Rod can start his own league. On the moon.

Boras already on the phone with Steinbrenner because Arod won't be the highest paid player in 2015.

No matter the context, the Giants contract with Barry Zito is painfully bad.

Good work Edgy , Todd Helton looks way over paid the next several years , Miguel Cabrera's deal could turn sour I think.

How about Toronto locking up Wells and Rios the way they did? Both are good to very good, but neither, I'd say, is great or looks to contend for any MVPs during those contracts.

I may be wrong, but I don't think either were among the top 50 or honorable mentions in that mock draft. Rios, at least, looks to be paid more modestly.
