No, not the rotisserie kind of fantasy, but the Basball Prospectus annual version of thier projection of the best players over the next five years. They have several guidelines, mainly that you're trying to pick the best real team you can - not just a collection of fantasy league stat hounds. And, that while contract status doesn't matter, real life age and physical condition do which you need to consider as these will be the guys on your theoretical team for the '09-'13 seasons. i looked the list over and have no major disagreements with it. If i was actually doing such a ranking, it would be hard for me to have a minor leaguer (Wieters) in my top 50, but i guess he's worth it and i guess Longoria would have been there (though not so high up) if the ranking had been done before he had come up and had success.

Wishful thinking, but McCann doesn't strike me as a long-term producer at the level he's at.

what about him makes you think so? i see nothing in his numbers that tells me he won't remain a top 5 hitting catcher for the next 5 years

After scanning through the first set of rankings it's Curtis Granderson at #16 that is a surprise to me. His ranking seems awfully high to me. Maybe I just don't fully appreciate his abilities.

Think of Granderson as the OFer version of Reyes: good BA (walks more often) plus lots of 2Bs & 3Bs with medium HR power all packaged with a good glove at a premium defensive position. He's 2-1/2 years older and wasn't as good as early and so is more likely to already be at or near his peak, but the skills are pretty similar and so is the 'fun factor' watching him.
