So......why don't they just move the kid up one age level?

As I understand it, that is what is usually done when one kid is far and away better than his peers.

If he's too good for the 9 year-olds, let him pitch against the 10 and/or 11 year-olds.

I definitely think his moms needs to be moved down a level.

See - I take the high road and someone else comes in and slams the open shot.

What Soupy said.

And not for nothing but it seemed that when I was a kid LL was about failing spectacularly when confronted by superior talent. It wasn't about everyone succeeding. And 40 mph, while probably pretty impressive for a little guy, is pretty much the speed at the 'slow' batting cages, no?

Everyone had that kid who threw faster than everyone else. I remember "that kid" when I played -- he hit me on the hand with a pitch once, which was the only way I was ever reaching base against him -- and the kid who pitched when I was an umpire. Either you suck it up and live with it, or you move him up.

The odd thing is, I've seen this story all over the place today (here, the Bench, ESPN radio and WFAN this morning), and that's what everyone's saying. Which means there's some sort of political garbage behind the scenes that we don't know about, and that's just really sad when you're talking about nine-year-olds playing baseball.

i saw this the other day, what a load of shit. unless a kid is wild enough that he's beaning people all the time theres no reason to stop him from pitching.

damn straight.
it seems to me that even though this private league told the team they couldn't play that they still showed up and used the field. maybe they were tresspassing, but more likely it was a public field, so why couldnt the other team just show up and play some baseball? asshole coaches is why.
