Meant to post this earlier today -

Couldn't sleep last night - euphoric high over Pelfrey's cg I suppose - so I watched the first round James Blake / Donald Young match which went 5 sets and ended at around 1:00 am. Good match.

You can't really tell from the picture but on Blake's left sleeve (right sleeve if you're looking at him) there is the familiar interlocking 'NY' that we all know so well.

Couldn't find any better shots of it on the 'net but it was pretty prominent during the match. Also his mother in the stands was draping a Mets jersey over her to keep her warm. The jersey was 'BLAKE 16'.

After Blake won and was doing the center court interview, the interviewer told him that it was a good night for him because the Mets had won as well. James nodded and said that if he's allowed he'll wear his Mets shirt through the tourney.

Here's a better one...

I like Blake , a real gamer . US mens tennis though is in a real bad state right now.

And just like that I now have a rooting interest in tennis.

Blake's been my horse in the men's tennis race for a few years now because he's a local guy, a Mets fan, a great story, and a player with a history of dramatic soul-crushing flameouts.

I've also got a rooting interest in 6'9" UGA grad John Isner, who exploded onto the scene during the Open series last season, won his first two matches in Queens, and then took a set from Federer. It's been all downhill since then, though. He got bounced by Andreas Beck yesterday. Sigh.

Blake advanced yesterday, however, I see no Met logos on this outfit that he wore during the match against Steve Darcis.

"Darcis, a 62nd-ranked Belgian, took the first set, 6-4, but retired with apparent back tightness after Blake had come back to win the second set, 6-3. Blake was ahead 1-0 in the third when Darcis surrendered."
