Matsui adjusts nicely going to his right on a grounder that skimmed off the lip of the grass in the first, then Anderson picked the throw on a long hop. Cameron and Cliff double-double for a run. Cameron looked to tweak his leg, but stayed in and scored the run.

Stop apologizing - it was my brother-in-law's fault. As my phone rang the ball left the yard. The phone stopped ringing, I looked at the caller ID and saw it was him. I called him back and he said the was calling to tell me about the possible no-no (HE was calling ME to tell me? Please). He jinxed it.

And now Oswalt comes a little too close to Piazza. Pedro's mayoral campaign commercials would have to be better than that guy in the NJ primary who has the camera spinning in circles. Lamb-Everett-Ausmus in the eighth; if the Mets pick up a couple of runs here, I'd say Lamb goes down.

Oswalt hit Floyd in the elbow; the benches cleared reeeeeeeeeeeally slowly, and that was that. The bullpens didn't even reach the infield dirt before turning around and heading back.

Beltran singles, takes second on a WP/PB (WW), then Oswalt nails Floyd in lieu of an IBB. Finger pointing, but little else, ensues. Meanwhile, Piazza walks, then Anderson singles off Ensberg's glove. 3-1 Mets, and Oswalt is history.

On the post game interview, Pedro said he didn't know he had a no-hitter going. I don't buy that one. If he didn't know then he's not paying enough attention, which can't be so.

I believe it. You get so focused on making each pitch, it's definitely possible. I used to think the same thing, then I personally experienced that kind of focus. I used to bowl quite seriously. One night, I was bowling in a doubles league where you are also pitted head to head in match play against the guy on the other team. He threw a spare in the first frame, and I threw a strike - after that, we matched each other strike for strike the rest of the game - I was so focused on each shot, I didn't even know when I hit the 10th frame - he shot 279, I shot 300. So, yeah. I believe a pitcher now when he says that.

No way I take Pedro out. He was just under 100 pitches when the ninth started. But, that's not the real reason. If Pedro falters in the ninth, well, it was a great effort. Besides, Looper is ready if he gives up a hit or two. If Looper saves it, so what? Nice game. If, however, Looper blows it, the fallout would be devastating. And, when Pedro ends it with three man vs. boys strikeouts, it is euphoria.

Pedro was something. I did my part. Had a softball game at 75th and West Side Hwy, tuned in in the 3rd and refused to get on a subway train until or if it broke up. Made it all the way to Bway & 59th.

We did all kind of just skip over that thought. Very cool, lub. We saw a guy bowl a 299 once, a couple of lanes down from us: from then on forward, any time anyone left one pin standing, we called it a "Larry" in honor of that guy. I loved the CG last night; I think it can only help his (and Willie's) cahnfidence down the road. He was cruising! If he was laboring, then I'd say get him out of there, but he wasn't, so I have no problem letting him finish it.

The funny thing is that since I was in match play, I didn't have time to get nervous, so bowling in that kind of a match helped. Before that I had gotten to the last ball 3 times for a 297 and a pair of 299's ( I got screwed on both of them)

Petey makes me happy. When he struck out the side in the ninth, I was grinning ear to ear. I wonder how he would've done had we pitched him tonight instead of yesterday. Given his splits on 4 days versus 5, it might have been an even more historic performane. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I'm liking this team right now.

In the post-game and during the game, they said that the pen lost three of Pedro's leads this year. I remember Opening Day of course, and I thought I remembered one more, but I didn't think there was a third. Opening Day was definitely a shoulda won. Pedro could be 8-1. As long as he's being jinxed up and down, a Met winning the Cy Young would be cool. The SBS (or is it SSB?) team is going to have a my head on a platter.

That's right. That was the time Benitez ruined our season by blowing the save in the first game of a doubleheader against the DBacks causing us to go into a tailspin for the rest of the month. I remember thinking it was irresponsible of Benitez to pick that game to blow a save. I hope Looper won't repeat that mistake.

Didn't we open 2002 at 16-11 and first place in the East? I thought that after that the team went straight to the toilet. I didn't realize they were four over as late as July 31.
