Movin' here discussion thread

KC

I've had this board for a number of years just floating unused in cyberspace.
We originally had it turned on in 2002 when the CPF was contemplating
whether to abandon ezboard or not and obviously we didn't. The last couple
of days I fixed it up a little and tried to learn the admin panel as best as I
could in a short time.

Couple of things ...

You need to register to post, reply, etc. to threads. Please make sure that
you enable html so that you can read threads with html in them. It also seem
that guests not logged in reading won't see html posts as intended.

The following tags are turned on. If you need another one that I forgot please
PM me ...

font, b, i, u, s, p, blockquote, tt, a, image, align, table, caption, tr, th, td, br, and hr.

Thanks Kase. Whether we move permanently or simply vacation here while ezBoard gets its act together, thanks for putting the place in order.

This move could be good practice for Dorso's real move.

Wow! This looks like a nice enough place.

I can still smell the fresh blue paint!

Is there any way to get rid of those little yellow demons to my left as I type this? The ezPlace had a nice way to turn them off.

ON EDIT: Testing the edit function.

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 04 2005 12:08 PM

Hmmm. Doesn't indicate that the post has been edited. I think that little telltale tagline had merit.

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 04 2005 12:10 PM

And we're able to delete our own posts. No more need for "This message left blank"

That's nice. (I think.)

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 04 2005 12:11 PM

I notice that the count of our posts increases on every prior post. No more way of telling which post was our 41st or 666th.

Test of title change

When you're posting, there's no display of the title of the thread that you're in. With this post I'm attempting to change the title.

Let's see what happens.

Yancy - I think there is a time limit as to editing your posts without it being notated in the post. I think if you edit your post within a minute or two, it doesn't show that it was edited. Anything after that shows the date and time that it was edited.

On edit: testing editing function.

On edit II: It looks like you can edit a post without the notation only if someone hasn't replied to it yet.

I just found this in the FAQs:

Unless you are the board admin or forum moderator you can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post (sometimes for only a limited time after it was made) by clicking the edit button for the relevant post. If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic that lists the number of times you edited it. This will only appear if no one has replied; it also will not appear if moderators or administrators edit the post (they should leave a message saying what they altered and why). Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied.

ezBoard has been slow as hell this afternoon and has even been down during the game.

The case for moving gets stronger.

Hey! I made it!

A little concerned that once you change your avatar, it changes with you; but I guess that since the posting level attached to your name is always your current posting level, as well as your number of posts, I suppose that's not the end of the world, because then it'll always be right.

Hmmm...

In the meantime, I should probably make Dusty Baker's kid a little smaller, eh?

Hey guys, cool board.

Jun 04 2005 06:34 PM

I don't like your posting level on past posts changing every time you poste either. It's something I hope I can fix.

>>>It's something I hope I can fix.<<<

If you can, you have better eyes than me.

Change your pic or rank, it changes throughout from what I can tell.

seawolf17
Jun 04 2005 06:42 PM

For what it's worth, I think that's what most other boards do (universal changes)... it's probably much easier to maintain global changes than to keep archived information.

I'd say that's the only real benefit ezboard has going forward, though. (Well, that and the archives and previously-achieved posting levels that we'd lose by moving.)

edit: It already changed me to Paul Siebert, before I became Paul Siebert. Nuts. That's going to take some adjusting.

edit II: AHA! I figured out how to easily change my avatar every ten posts, and I can keep it small. Excellent.

Fuckin' A, it only took me a goddamn hour to figure this place out!

Okay, that could be attributed to the fact that I was out to dinner tonight and am fairly well lit right now.

Anyway, glad to see you all but FYI - if you're changing your handle than let me know who the hell you were.

Frayed Knot, Scarlett Knight and Seawolf I think I've got you three figured out but the rest of you please give a heads up. I like to know who I'm making an ass of myself in front of.

Thanks.

Yeah well, such is life.

How about getting our posting levels back? Any chance of that? I hat being monstrously huge again after almost 3,000 posts.

Resizing my avatar...

Holy crap! How do I resize my avatar? Is it something I need to do or does KC or Edgy handle that for us?

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 06 2005 11:16 AM

My two biggest peeves:

1. Those stupid Emoticons to my left. At ezBoard it was easy to turn them off, or hide them. I can't be typing a post at work with all those smiley faces on the page. I end up sliding my window to the left so that it's off-screen.

2. The HTML buttons don't seem to work. If I highlight some text and then click the italic button, I get square-bracket tags instead of traditional HTML tags (< >).

In my preferences I have HTML enabled and Smilies disabled, but that setting doesn't seem to have had the intended result.

Elster88
Jun 06 2005 11:40 AM

So your number of posts is also always changed on all your posts?

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 06 2005 11:50 AM

Yes.

That's annoying, too.

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 09 2005 08:14 AM

Am I the only one having trouble with the buttons above the area where you type in your message?

When I try to do bold text, I get this.

When I try to paste an image, I get this:

Italics look like this.

Etc.

So I end up keying in the HTML tags. Is that what everyone else is doing, or am I missing something?

getalife
Jun 09 2005 08:54 AM

Do you have "Always allow BBCode" checked as yes in your profile?

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 09 2005 09:27 AM

I have HTML yes, BBCode and Smileys no.

getalife
Jun 09 2005 09:40 AM

Checking yes for "Always allow BBCode" should fix it.

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 09 2005 10:04 AM

Bold

Italics

Green

That seems to do the trick.

Thanks.

Hey JS - good to see you!

Is it hot enough for ya?

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 09 2005 06:49 PM

I see there's a 60x60 limit on avatar size, but that doesn't seem to be taking effect.

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 09 2005 06:50 PM

Also, are we still test driving?

It seems more and more like we're moving in.

KC
Jun 09 2005 06:59 PM

As for the avatars, it was nice that everyone kind of policed themselves.
The limit seems to only be tied to images that are uploaded to the gallery.

Hopefully, Gooden will find something new NOW!!!

I think you test drove us into another solar system this morning with the
rankings stunt you pulled off.

Yancy Street Gang
Jun 09 2005 08:30 PM

There's an option, I think, to only allow Gallery avatars. That might not be a bad idea. We can easily get everybody's avatar into the gallery.

seawolf17
Jun 09 2005 08:56 PM

Might be a pain for those of us (okay, those of me) who change their avatar pretty regularly.
