Re: REALLY on the road again....London Stadium
It'll be 385 to center, compensated for by a 16-foot mini-Green Monster. 335 down the lines and shallow alleys. There's a good chance there'll be a lot of long balls. I read that they have been able to find some more room with center moving back to 392 feet, and alleys up to 387 feet. Will also be ...

Re: Baty and Scott to Syracuse
They lose the big stipend for the trip. I've read that the LAD and SD players got about $70,000 (maybe more) for the South Korea trip. It’s not that much. Per the MLBPA basic agreement, it’s a $70k lump sum to the team as extra compensation, to be split among players and non-executive personnel (ma...

Diaz to IL, Shoulder Impingement
Theories:
1. He’s actually hurt (and maybe that explains things).
2. He’s not really hurt, and this is an Eppler-style move to let him save face and get a breather.

When do the Mets hit rock bottom? Are we there yet or are there still even worse ways to lose coming? Asking for a friend/all of us.

Re: IGT 05/27/24 -- LAD @ NYM -- Because it's also on the schedule
(not that I'm advocating for a split-DH, they shouldn't be allowed, but the poor owners need their gate revenue). There’s any number of situations in which a separate admission doubleheader is not just appropriate but actually preferable. The real issue is not doubleheaders. The issue is that ticke...

We are far enough into the Cohen regime that he bears responsibility. Of course he bears responsibility, since he punted on the season by assembling a team that would win 87 games if things went right. That Diaz, Lindor, McNeil, Alonso, and Nimmo are all simultaneously underperforming is not his fa...

Re: Mets schedule - 2024
The outlier is the unusual Wednesday game at 4:10 PM. Getaway day for the Dodgers who fly back home (and have a day off the next day) but Mets are in the middle of a long homestand. Given their off day, it makes little sense to accommodate the Dodgers with a weeknight game at 4. The 4:10 start on Me...

I don't know why these tunes are stitched together like this is but that's how they are meant to be apparently. Not really. “The Way” was a hidden track at the end of the Darkness on the Edge of Town anniversary box he put out a while back. It just came after “City of Night.” Bruce has said he real...

There was show a while back that Springsteen brought out Joel as a special guest, and my recollection is that he described him and Joel collectively as opposite sides of the same tragic coin.

This thread needs Gwreck to chime in. Not sure how I missed this thread for 8 months. An enjoyable read. Lots of interesting takes here. Catching up on a couple of things: -Saw Springsteen on Broadway , didn’t think it was half as good as others did when it got rave reviews. A solo show in a small ...

Re: Are the Mets Just Bad
Is McNeil bad, or is he hurt? Was he ever healthy this year? Is this like Marte last year, where he was put on the DL way too late and never got healthy? Baty is not good. Now, patience is fine, and this is a transition year anyway, but he’s not good. Bench and roster construction leaves something t...

Re: IGT, PHI@NYM 2024-05-13: One I'm Sure They Wrote for You and Me
There’s a real roster/bench management problem here when the Mets have no viable options in the 10th inning. Burning 2 players to hit for Baty is a real problem. If Baty can’t be trusted to hit in a big spot, he can’t start. Not with Wendle and Nido and Narvaez holding down unproductive spots on the...

Re: The Perfect Game Conundrum
Proof once again that Manfred has actively tried to ruin baseball.
Answering the question: should the only run be scored without a hit, walk, error, HBP, wild pitch on strike 3 — yes, it’s still a perfect game.

Re: IGT 05-01-2024 Cubs at Mets Back in the Black
Ways to avoid this in the future: - don't get shut out for the first 8 innings have have to depend on a run via a short FO w/a slow runner on 3rd That’s all fine, well, and good but not at all a practical assessment. Of course the solution to everything is “score more runs” but even teams that have...

Re: IGT 05-01-2024 Cubs at Mets Back in the Black
I’m guessing the bench was empty? It was. Yes and no. They could have used a pitcher to pinch-run for Alonso. Stewart would have played first and Martinez in left (foregoing the DH) had the game gone to extras. I might have done that if Alonso was the winning run (but not for the tying run).

Re: IGT 05-01-2024 Cubs at Mets Back in the Black
MLB absolutely needs to have an in-stadium explanation. It’s a total disservice to the fans. 1. The catcher was set up on the plate without the ball. Everybody saw it. So explain why you “confirmed” that call notwithstanding the video. 2. You have to explain what you saw. “The video shows the runner...

Re: London Calling!
I just realized how pleased I am that MLB thought to schedule this in June, rather than at the top of the season, when London would likely be chilly and rainy. Fair, but also it’s more a function of money. Nice weather = people paying. I sure wouldn’t be going if it was in April. It strikes me that...

Re: Mets schedule - 2024
Late starts on the West Coast are inevitable and those Saturday evening start times are perfectly normal for LA or Seattle. No basis for complaint there. The fact that the Mets have only 9 home games AND two West Coast road trips in August, however, is pretty crappy. I do recall there was discussion...
