LAAAts Go MAAAts - Syracuse Mets thread, 2024

Post by Fman99 » Fri Mar 29, 2024 10:56 am

Home opener for the AAA Mets today, also, at 2:05 PM. It's a brisk 41 degree day in the Cuse. Too cold for me; I shan't be attending.

Starting lineup. I'm excited to watch Gilbert & Acuna here in Syracuse all summer. Can Jett Williams be that far behind, I wonder? Depends on how he starts the year Rumble Ponying.

CF Gilbert
2B Acuna
1B Choi
3B Vientos
RF Thompson
LF Gamel
SS Iglesias
C Allen
DH Bannon

Gilbert and Acuna with homers. Up 6-1 in the 7th.
We will expect a detailed scouting report on those kids.
You would have frozen your tuchus. Good move staying home.

That's actually a decent lineup. That's a major league lineup on some teams. The last time I saw the Syracuse Mets play is when I still lived in the Rochester area, but that was a few years ago now.

The starting pitcher for Syracuse is "TBD".
How can a manager not know who his starter is in the second game of the season? They didn't just come off a long road trip where they used many pitchers.
Doesn't he have the rotation set in his mind coming out of spring training?

Sometimes, the guy you want to use hasn't been cleared by the trainers, and won't be until game day. Sometimes, the guy you wanted to use has become unavailable at a late hour, and you and the coaches are still weighing your alternatives.

It was Butto, and he's down 1-0 after 1.

Mark Vientos homer, but they're down 4-1 in the 7th.

We are planning our Syracuse Mets in person debut tonight despite the forecast calling for temps in the 40-45 range. Fwife wants to see J.D. Martinez on his stop through town and this is likely to be his last game before his expected MLB Mets Friday debut.

Let us know how he looks!

I just saw a clip that says Drew Gilbert is out 4 more weeks. That's too bad. I thought he might have been one of our first callups this year.

I did too. I suppose he still might be, if Bader continues to play well for a while longer.

Luisangel Acuna hasn't been hitting for average.
Let us know if he looks overmatched or if he is just hitting in bad luck.

He looked pretty good! Went 2-4 with a well struck double to the wall in the first inning and an RBI single up the middle in his second AB. Followed by two whiffs, which I will blame on the bitterly cold temps.

Luisangel Acuna looked good too. He can fly on the bases and executed a perfect drag bunt single down the third base line.

Double bonus - when it's that cold you can walk up 6 minutes before first pitch and get a seat four rows behind the dish.
