Japanese-Born MLB Home Run Leaders

Post by Edgy MD » Mon Apr 22, 2024 2:13 pm

1) Shohei Ohtani (2018–present): 176
2) Hideki Matsui (2003–2012): 175
3) Ichiro Suzuki (2001–2019): 117
4) Kenji Johjima (2006–2009): 48
5) Tadahito Iguchi (2005–2008): 44
6) Kosuke Fukudome (2008–2012): 42
7) Seiya Suzuki (2022–present): 37
8) Nori Aoki (2012–2017): 33
9) Kazuo Matsui (2004–2010): 32
10) Dave Roberts (1999–2008): 23

Fun fact: Up until September 24, 1999, Hideo Nomo was the all-time leader, and he only fell out of the top ten on June 11, 2008, when passed by current-sixth-place-holder Kosuke Fukudome.

Wikipedia says there are 67 Japanese born MLB players. I would have guessed more.

I challenge you CPF. Without looking them up. Name them all.

Obviously, Americans of Japanese descent (Kurt Suzuki, Lenn Sakata) don't count.

One guess per post. No guessing two in a row. (you can't guess the guys on the list above)

Two Igarashi's in a row. Does that count as "one guess"? Can I go again?

Looking at the list, I don't see how we can get the last 15-20 without hints. But as of right now, there are lots of low hanging fruit remaining. Including players who have worn orange and blue.
