Is that Conforto HBP?
My in-game said he was HBP and Soler was coming up with the bases loaded.

Hey, managers, there is nothing magic about 100 pitches!
It's a weird fad. The more they try to conserve and limit pitchers, the more they seem to get hurt and need season-ending surgeries.

I remember when it was 120, obviously. That seemed like a good standard.
I wish it was a fad. It's closer to a rule from where I sit.

Yeah, it took 10 minutes for some reason to figure out what was obvious from the get-go, that the ball ticked off of the knob of his bat.

Manaea looks like he's going through a serious personal crisis in the dugout.

I'm on your side, Sean!

I just don't know why they stick to it like it is the be-all, end-all. There is absolutely no flexibility. That's what gets me. If a guy is having a good game and has something left in the tank ... why not keep a good thing going?

Speaking of keeping a good thing going, here's hoping for an easy 6th.

In the Mets/Yankees World Series of 2000, Joe Torre hooked Denny Neagle after 4 2/3 innings in a much tighter game (3-to-2). There was nobody on and he had only thrown 73 pitches, but Piazza was up and Torre didn't trust his pitcher.

it seemed like a minor scandal at the time. Now it's the most common thing in the world.

On 13 pitches. Garrett may be back out to start the next inning.

One more hit today and Lindor is off the interstate.

Garrett is averaging 17.3 K/9 IP this year.

If he's a late-blooming great like Wade Davis or Andrew Miller, I'll eat my pants.

In fairness to Mendoza, the decision to pull Manaea after 101 pitches may have been a matter of organizational policy that he can't change on a whim.

And while I agree with y'all about how this is too often used as a magic number without regard to circumstances, I don't think that applies in today's case.
- Manaea was playing with fire the entire game, virtually all of it his doing, with high-pitch counts and traffic in almost every inning
- the walk (his 4th in 4-2/3) to Conforto put two on and brought up not just a RHB but SF's best power hitter (Soler) who could halve the lead w/one swing

If he wanted to finish the inning he needed to get the lefty Conforto out. He didn't.

Well, Lindor is off the Interstate. Over .650 with his OPS too.

Seems like a week ago that he was hitting .048 or something.

I'm on a bit of a pause-delay, I start up and the garlic-fry gulls are

I don't love that Diaz threw 20 pitches today. Hopefully he can sit tomorrow.

I'm concerned that he didn't strike anyone out.
Not his style.
Or was he just throwing strikes to get on the plane home?
