Leap Day XIGT: 2/29, NYM @ HOU

Post by Edgy MD » Thu Feb 29, 2024 10:05 am

We have an early evening 6:05 start for this one as the Mets head to Park of the Palm Beaches to take on the Astros. José Quintana makes hiss 2024 spring debut as the Mets try to extend their best-in-baseball four-game winning streak and catch the Orioles, a half game ahead in the Grapefruit League rankings.

Tyrone Taylor tries to keep his .500 batting average going as part of the Mets patented two-Taylor outfield, DJ Stewart continues to bounce between cleanup and leadoff, and while Jett Williams isn't in the starting lineup, he hopes to glean some of José Altuve's hidden truths of making it in MLB as an undersized infielder.

All this and MORE going down today at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches, which is just a disturbingly confusing name for a Spring Training ballpark. Or anyplace, really.

Is there a list Zach Short can join of the guys who are the most appropriately named players at their position? Is there an oldtimey secondbaseman name Cliff Keystone or a thirdbaseman name Tommy Trecero or something?

It is not, sadly.

Scoreless we are in the bottom of the second. G-Man Choi has a double, continuing to rake and rake some more, almost keeping up with Alonso's torrid spring pace.

Lost 2-1.
Tylor Megill with three scoreless innings.
Acuna with the lone RBI.

Outhit the Astros in total, but waited too long to make their move, they did.
