Twenty-One Prediction Fun: Yennsy Diaz

Post by Edgy MD » Wed Mar 17, 2021 12:55 pm

I know cooby hates prediction threads, but hey, but up more threads and these will get spread a little thinner on the front page.

I'm Yennsy Diaz, and in addition to having a near-palindrome of a first name, I'm so jazzed about being a Met that I'm already versed enough to in the culture to have a working knowledge of cooby's posting preferences. I arrived as part of the Steven Matz package, and I'm already looking to fill his rotation spot. I started camp something like 12th on that depth chart, but I can feel myself rising, floating past the Harol Gonzalezes and Corey Oswalts and into the Taijuanosphere. Keep an eye out for me.

I'm a late starter (signed at 180, with a solid fastball and a plus curve, but prone to butterflies under pressure, which includes me walking the ballpark in my lone big league appearance back in 2019 (jump ahead to 4:14 in the video below to share in my ignominy). But that's behind me now. And I'm putting that behind in the past. What's in the future? That's for you to know and me to find out ... when you tell me in the thread below.

Starts the year at AAA because when they look at the contract he signed, nobody can believe anyone is named Yennsy and think he has forged someone else's name.
Stays there long enough to pitch well (10-5 3.58) and have his passport validated. So he's brought up to the Mets in September and goes 1-3 4.40 in six games, two as a starter.

He'll be our second-best Diaz, but our best Yennsy.

Roughly translated, Yennsy is a term that means "disorienting but fun"

"How are you feeling after that trip on Space Mountain?"

"I feel totally Yennsy, man."

Predicting the Mets deploy him as reliever in AA and he unleashes danergous levels of Yennsity upon the circuit, closes out the AA all-star game with a memorable 3-whiff performance and advances to Syracuse in August, after which his arm goes Yennsy. Sept. callup to the Mets, but no appearances.

Not so yennsy season at AAA, ERA in the mid-4s, with flashes of interesting. Misses several injury-spurred busses down to NYC, in favor of guys like Eickhoff and Yamamoto.

Cool name (that seems to be theme on our beloved team). Nothing MLBish in 2021.

The Carrasco injury bumps the Yennsman up to about 11th on our depth chart.

Hopefully that keeps him at bay through most of the season, but I'm seeing four appearances, including one start, in Septemember. He'll have a moment or two, but a pre-planned early exit in the start will help banjax his overall numbers, leaving him with a 6.30 ERA.

Wait, we're making ex post facto predictions?

I just wanted to share Yennsy's farewell message and say he did more, and/or better than all of us had expected this year which wasn't much. I know this holds true with most relievers but take away his worst couple of outings and he was pretty much a reliever for all kinds of weather and not just the disproportionate percentage of defeats he appeared in.

Anyway I'd invite him back
