Twenty-One Prediction Fun: J.T. Ginn

Post by Edgy MD » Mon Mar 22, 2021 12:27 pm

I'm J.T. Ginn, and you may think you have met me earlier in this series, but that was Matt Allen.

See, I was a first round pick for the Dodgers out of high school back in 2018. But I decided, fuck the Dodgers, and went off to make a name for myself in the SEC. The start to my career at Mississippi State was dominant. I was like Jan Vermeer in a Kindergarten art class. It was stupid. And I was only a freshman pitching against some of the best competition in the NCAA.

And that's what you want, if you're a first-round pick who goes to college, you sure as hell want to be upgrading your already high draft position, when even moving up one or two slots can mean big $$. But then ping-creek-pop! And something blows in my elbow, and WHY DIDN'T I TAKE THAT DODGER MONEY?!?! KILL MY AGENT!!

But I had the tomato juice surgery, returned, and while my return to draft status was ignored in the 2020 first round, some teams remembered just how high they had me on their cards two years earlier, and began maneuvering to get me. To buy low. This shall henceforth be known as the Matt Allen strategy, because this is what the Mets did a few years earlier, grabbed a surgically damaged star, hoping to see a rebound, and offering over-slot money that they would slush out of the pockets of later picks. Like with other high pixx, the cancellation of the 2020 minor league season led to me getting invited to a big league camp before even making a professional debut. Unlike most of those others, I didn't get into a game, but I did get to work out alongside fellow Tommy Johnian Noah Syndergaard, and that's kind of cool, and I got to show my quality to the powers that be. But now the rubber hits the road.

What rubber? What road? How hard will it be? Will there be music and women and candy bars in my future? Will a section of the second deck at Citi Field dress as flowers on the day of my starts and call themselves the Ginn Blossoms? These things are unknown, but they are not unknowable. That is why I call on you.

Meantime, watch my sinker absolutely tear the pants off of Florida hitters.

I like anyone who ever said or decided, in a real or an imaginary fashion, "Fuck the Dodgers."

Is it a hard G, like Greg Ginn?

Or a soft G, like "I got three wishes from a magical ginn??

Is that a request to curb them? Because I think J.T is #26 of a scheduled 77.

I do think less is more. I find that I stop paying attention (and participating) when most of the threads are for people I've never heard of.

Predicting Brandon Nimmo or Carlos Carrasco makes sense. But Luis Carpio? Drew Ferguson? Jacob Barnes? I think most of us are just shrugging our shoulders.

I just checked, and in 2019, 33 of the 78 threads received four responses or fewer.

I'll lead with the A-listers going forward.

Although Dairy Barnes is TOTALLY going to make this team.
