Twenty-One Prediction Fun: Luís Guillorme

Post by Edgy MD » Tue Mar 23, 2021 12:51 pm

Yeah, I've got the mushy belly and big stupid beard, but I've also got coordination and dexterity — the whole hands, eyes, and feet thing — like nobody since Rey Ordòñez, and I kind of maybe have found a way to deploy that dexterity offensively, which neither Rey nor earlier model José Oquendo figured out until after leaving the Mets.

So, even though I'm probably the best shortstop on the team, this Lindor guy has that job, leaving me to try to scratch a role together as a backup at second, third, and short. But an injury or a slump arrives and I may just leapfrog this Villar interloper and crack the lineup, at least on a temporary basis.

But whatever, backup or starter, second or third, I earned my slot last year, and it's mine to lose or build on this year. That's what we call a crossroads. Which path do I take? I beg of you to predict the answer.

Yes, my highlight reel includes two plays where the defender just took himself out of the play, but I'm still awesome.

I don't know if he's eligible for Dark Horse status, but I think he's going to be an important member of this team. 400 or more plate appearances, and he'll start at least 60 games, somewhere. Should the Mets be fortunate enough to make the postseason, he'll be in the starting lineup at least a few times.

Not as good at many infield positions to make us forget about Fonzie, but a valuable part of the 2021 team.

130 games, .278/.335/.350 in 300 PA, most of his starts at 3B.

This guy plays a legit SS, something Edgardo never did, and I'd give LG the edge in range and arm.

I sometimes forget that because he doesn't have the typical svelte look I associate with good fielding shortstops.
My bad.
But comparing him to the beloved Fonzie was, I thought, a compliment.

Fonzie's career line: .292/.367/.812, beloved all-time fan favorite
Wilmer's career line: .262/.303/.727, beloved all-time fan favorite

Somewhere between Fonzie and Wilmer sounds about right.

.275/.330/.750, becomes a beloved first-time fan favorite

As a couple of us said in the JD D thread, Luis will be regularly starting at 3B come May.
