Twenty-Three Skiddoo: Starling Marte

Post by Edgy MD » Wed Mar 08, 2023 6:54 pm

I was as good as anybody on this team last year. I hit, I fielded, I ran, and I threw, and I looked damned handsome doing it — until I broke.

But shit, I stayed broke and stayed broke, and when they activated me just at the end of the season, it looked like I was still broke. I underwent "core muscle surgery" over the offseason, and while I know nobody's supposed to be counting at this juncture of the season, we're 10 games into the exhibition schedule, and I haven't taken the field yet.

This is why these threads are important. ZiPS says to expect 2.7 WAR from me, but it's hard to explicitly expect anything ... until we hear from you.

A season ending over a finger break leading to a "core muscle surgery" was something of a surprise. He's due to make his spring debut tomorrow.

.280 / .337 /.453 // .790 — 17 homers and 63 RBI in 130 games.

It was great that he was able to return for the playoffs. He definitely provides a spark to the team, as does Nimmo. I hope he can keep doing it.
