Twenty-Three Skiddoo: Mark Vientos

Post by Edgy MD » Mon Mar 13, 2023 7:28 pm

Listen. I wasn't passed by Brett Baty. Don't let people get away with saying that. The only reason BB got called up before me (after six games at AAA, FFS!) is that the Mets were short on lefty hitters. I got a up a few weeks later and I earned my promotion. I'm Mark Vientos, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I'm also having a solid spring, have put together a strong minor league career, and have kind of gotten sneakily better as I've progressed, even as most prospect rankers keep me at arm's length. As they say in those movies and TV shows where an ambitious young man has his talents overlooked, I'LL SHOW THEM! I'LL SHOW THEM ALL!!

But what will I show them? ZiPS says I'll show them about 1.9 WAR, but only the Crane Pool Forum knows for sure.

I'm not sayin' he gonna' Wally Pipp the Polar Bear.
But there's more than enough at bats for someone who has that kind of power, even if he as to wear a glove only occasionally.
By year's end, that WAR figure could be doubled.
