I don't want to know what a Sod Poodle is.

Lots of minor league teams now have those two-word, wonky marketing department-created names that exist more to sell merchandise than to actually mean anything.
Sod Poodles
Trash Pandas
Jumbo Shrimp
Rumble Ponies
Etc.

The Dodgers' AAA team in Oklahoma City is for this season called the "Oklahoma City Baseball Club" while it awaits a stupid new name that will announce after the year.
They are transitioning from the Oklahoma City Dodgers which was a boring name. Used to be known as the Red Hawks and before that the 89ers.

I am well aware of that. Almost all of them come out of the same (SD-based IIRC) marketing agency which takes time to give each of their
client teams a name that is totally unique ... and also one that is just like every other one of their client teams.
I just don't know, and don't want to think about, what a Sod Poodle might be.

That one has some semblance of a tie to their city. Binghamton is where they used to make carnival carousels, and the name is a tribute to the horses on them.

Oh, then to replace that we also have
Space Cowboys
Yard Goats
Blue Wahoos

Another one with a historical tie - yard goats are the engines that move trains in a depot, and Hartford used to be a big railroad hub. The name was voted on by the locals.

They all have a semblance of a tie to the city.
That doesn't change the reality that they all deliberately chose a name that diminishes, infantalizes, and sometimes even emasculates the player for the sake of tired and cliched marketability through goofiness.
I blame Max Klinger and his Mud Hens hat.
