His second appearance allowed him to have a less-than-infinite ERA. So that's something.

Re: Live the Seaver Way
I don't know. The convenience of being able to walk to the game, with no worry about parking or post-game traffic is great. But there would be more days and nights when I wasn't attending the game, and the noise and traffic would be annoying. It's hard to say if the pros would outweigh the cons.

Here's a dumb headline in my Google News feed, from something called Marca.com:
And no, I'm not going to click on the article to see what the answer is.Do the Mets give up on Juan Soto after acquiring Jose Siri from the Rays?

I found six "Meet the Mess" covers, surprisingly only three of them in the TCD era. It does seem like a very common headline, but maybe this is one of those Nelson Mandela things. http://ultimatemets.com/covers/2002/20020328_NYP_02.jpg http://ultimatemets.com/covers/2008/20080618_NYP_01.jp...

That would suck.
If he decides not to go to the Mets, I would advise him to go to the Red Sox or Blue Jays.

We currently have a three-way tie here, with each of our publishers represented once:
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO YES! (New York Post)
MARTE HEARTY! (New York Daily News)

I think that white space is where a bar code would be on the printed edition.

Re: Discuss trading for Jordan Montgomery
My feeling at this point is that Marte probably has more value as a DH (or a platoon DH) than Montgomery would have as a starter.

By calling attention to this poll, I inadvertently turned a two-way tie into a three-way tie.
I wasn't looking for a three-way!

This poll has fewer voters than usual, and a tie that will need to be broken. If you haven't chimed in yet, please do so!

I think it was sourced. It traces back to something Carlos Beltran said to a Puerto Rican newspaper.

Yeah, and frankly, I don't see what a GM would do, other then run out to pick up David Stearns' lunch orders.

6.23 ERA over 117 innings in 2024.
He's owed $25 million for 2025.
He'll turn 32 next month.
I don't see it happening, unless Arizona eats most of his salary.

Re: Go Get Juan Soto
According to Carlos Baerga (I have no idea whether or not he's in a position to have any inside information) the Mets have made an offer to Soto that's worth $660 million. No word that I've seen about how many years that might cover.

I pretty much tuned out the last couple of months of the 2023 season. I started having account problems at my gf's house (for some reason it thought the location was in the New York blackout area, but it's clearly not) and I barely checked in when I was at home. The team was going so badly that I di...

Re: Memories of Minute Maid
This was originally called Enron Field, wasn't it? For a little while, after the Enron scandal, it was called Astros Field. That's the name I've stuck with in the UMDB. For ballparks that have never had a non-corporate name, I've toyed with the idea of listing them by their addresses. I haven't done...
