Interestingly that is too bad due to the fact that the Dodgers have still yet to win a World Championship in Chavez Ravine since 1963!

Then again, much of their “fanbase” is made up of transplanted members of those divisional rivals’ fanbases ;)

Re: Tampa Bay Rays in 2025

It looks like the Blue Jays Spring Training complex in nearby Dunedin is currently the leading candidate to be a temporary home for the Rays. Like The Trop, it's on the St. Pete side of the bay, as is the Phillies' Clearwater park. The Yankees train on the Tampa side, plus, they're the Yankees. Sti...

Re: In World Series Thread - 2024

This series is uninteresting because there’s no juice to the matchup. No underdogs, no surprises, no teams that have engineered a turnaround. This is an uncompelling and uninteresting series regardless of how one feels about the teams. Gotta say, this is the first time I've heard the argument that ...

Re: Fernando Valenzuela 1960-2024

He was a fun addition to MLB. Can you hear the guns Fernando comes to mind when he got shelled in a game which was rare. Very good pitcher. I remember a Fernando/Fernandez game which was a classic big dark haired guys with similar names who struck out a lot of guys game. I think Sid won but I’m not...

Re: Fernando Valenzuela 1960-2024

Tommy Lasorda had no such scruples and even in his rookie year was showing signs over over-work. As noted, he was driven into the ground by 26. The screwball is a brutal pitch on the arm for a reliever. For a starter logging 250+ innings per season, it was crippling. Its why we, nor the A’s faced h...

Jason Turnbow’s They Bled Blue is also another good read/listen on that 1981 Dodger season.

Re: Fernando Valenzuela 1960-2024

MLBS (I’m pretty sure) Erik Sherman’s Daybreak At Chavez Ravine is a great read, or listen as I did, for a great overview of Fernando’s life and career. Focusing of course on the Dodgers’ efforts to gain the adoration of the Latin American communities that hated them ever since communities were disp...

4 is not Tom Phoebus ;)
I think I told that story earlier here, TL;DL Richard Neer of WFAN once was convinced someone talking about the 1960s Oriole who had a hell of a rookie season was being silly with Seaver’s name and was really talking about Seaver

What is the earliest a long term contract has ever been extended? ;)

Kind of curious actually. And I’m not counting restructuring so you get paid years after the contract technically ended.

Re: Off-Day Modest Proposal

They should also name an official list of MLB All-Stars from 2020, even if no game was played. They did create an unofficial list, but Baseball Reference and the like don't recognize it. Who has? The Sporting News made one in 1945 (or was it ‘44), picked by the skippers, and that unofficial pair of...

I would extend that all the way to the end of that run…SHOULD HAVE BEEN US DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!

Also just add forever 1988 to a Dodger LCS matchup. Even though we are 2-0 in series against them since, getting revenge on them will never be over! ;)

Re: Division Series Rooting Interest Poll: Royals/Yankees

Of course rooting against the Yankees. It's kinda strange that I'm actively hoping to rematch the Royals in the WS but I'd want no part of a rematch with the Yankees. Yeah, I do know one legit Royal fan IRL, a former co-worker who grew up there, but the Met fanbase, specifically in the region of th...

Re: The Mets in the Postseason

In the current format there have been three years of best-of-3 wild card rounds, 12 series in total. The Mets were involved in the only two that went three games. All ten of the others were 2-0 sweeps. I think it’s more incredible to think that the division winner is now 2 for 6 in these series! An...
