Re: Siri, Would You Prefer Not to Play at Steinbrenner Field?" (split from "Mets Organization Off Season Moves")
An elite fielder, but painfully one-dimensional as a hitter. He has some value if used right.

Re: Let's talk about Garrett Crochet
He's yet to present any evidence that he can handle a full season of work, and his 5.12 ERA and .823 OPS against after the ASB should not instill any confidence. Somebody is going to severely overpay for this guy, and I really hope that somebody isn't us.

Re: Who was the worst Mets GM?
It's not an easy call. Eppler's 75 wins with the ludicrous payroll was impressive in a bad way, but the team won 101 games on his watch the season before. I'm going to go with Zack Scott, because trading Pete Crow-Armstrong for two months of Javier Baez when it was clear that DeGrom wasn't coming ba...

Re: Go Get Juan Soto
The odd thing about Soto's defense is that both Fangraphs and the Fielding Bible have him as better in right field that in left. And neither pegs him as significantly worse than average. If anything he's significantly better in right than Marte has been the past two seasons. I don't see it as a majo...

It's not a bad hedge bet from their perspective.cal sharpie wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 4:53 pm Angels seem committed to making Logan O'Hoppe their catcher so Travis will likely be a back-up. The apostrophe in his last name probably clinched the deal.

Re: Rori Sasaki
He'd have to be a contact pitcher here, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The plus is that he could develop into Imanaga with fewer home runs. The minus is that he needs to build up his innings. This is a case of how much are you willing to pay up front for upside.

Re: Let's talk about Willy Adames
You could make a case for 5 and 140 with either of them. Adames is younger, but Bregman is a safer bet defensively at third base. I wouldn't go overboard, but I'd certainly check in.

When do they decide on this? I'd be OK either way with Severino, and I'd be pleasantly surprised if Alonso or Manaea took it.

Re: Let's talk about Max Fried
I think $25M per year is as much value as you can get from him, although Cohen might not care. And that's assuming things don't go pear-shaped at some point, which is always a risky bet for a pitcher. I wouldn't go above 4 and 90, and if that's not good enough I'm OK with shopping for value on the p...

This. A front-loaded contract with player options only backfires if he starts out bad and stays bad. And I'm willing to play the odds on this one.Centerfield wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 10:16 am Signing him to a long term deal and having him opt out of the second half would be ideal.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/10/top-35-trade-candidates-mlb-offseason.html MLB Trade Rumors put up its list of 35 trade candidates. A couple of very random thoughts: I'd be curious to see if that one pitch to Alonso tanks Devin Williams' value -- and if the Mets would be the quickest team to...

Re: Go Get Juan Soto
Of course you have to be in on Soto. The Mets are freeing up more than enough money, and if you want to get to the level of consistent contention where the Yankees and the Dodgers are at, you have to be willing to pull the trigger on big deals. What makes this interesting is that at least two of the...

Re: Who do you want back, and who should go?
I'm pretty sure Iglesias only has a one-year deal. (Which brings us back to the not-mutually-exclusive question of will he be too expensive to keep or did we get the best of him this year.) I don't think price is really an issue -- we have freed up all the money we were paying Scherzer, Verlander, a...

Re: The White Sox' season/streak deserves its own thread
There are a couple of things that make it hard to compare the 62 Mets to these White Sox. The Mets were an expansion team where everybody was either too young or too old to be in their prime, playing for a fan base that was thrilled to have a National League team again. The White Sox play in an era ...
