Re: Who was the worst Mets GM?

He was GM from October of 2003 until he was replace by Omar Minaya twelve months later. Omar certainly made some big impactful deals, bringing in (off the top of my head) Carlos Beltran, Pedro Martinez, Carlos Delgado, Moises Alou, Johan Santana, and others. Omar made brilliant trades and signed du...

Centre County PA turning red is an eye opener
It's no consolation at all, but she ultimately did win Centre County by about 2000 votes.

but no... i also do think that a HUGE part of the blame falls on biden and democrats in general, for failing to set kamala up to succeed from the get go in 2020. they ran the country like they didn't have to also win '24, and it showed. kamala should've been a front and center part of the administr...

I'm in the middle of working during the busiest time of the year and trying to help friends buck up when we're all losing our shit, but the one other issue in addition to those FK and CF brought up is Ukraine. I don't think Putin gives a damn about taking back the Ukraine Sudetenland. I think the pu...

Not just you. I'm feeling like a fucking idiot after posting pretty much an entire page on how that Iowa poll basically said that Kamala had it in the bag.

Trump won by 13 in Florida, which was expected to go for Trump in the mid single digits. Kamala is down by 200,000 in Georgia with about 1.5 million votes left to count. She'd need about 57% to break in her favor, which looks difficult but not impossible.

Taking the morning off from work to drive people to the polls. I was going to head to Pittsburgh, but the volunteer organization I'm working with (www.Rideshare2Vote.com) said they needed more drivers here in Cleveland, where we have a tossup Senate race.

When you travel by plane, when you get to your destination, do you rent a car, (VS using public transportation) or does that differ whether you are on business or pleasure? I almost never rent a car if I can avoid it. I like public transportation. Exception - I had back-to-back conferences to atten...

Re: 2024 Presidential Election - Take II

they're not like coin flips though. They're opinions. These polls are not revealing facts the way you'd calculate odds in a game of chance for instance. Nor is it sequential. "trump lead in July but now Harris leads in October" is an incorrect way to view information that has not changed,...

Re: 2024 Presidential Election - Take II

The Iowa poll is being taken seriously because the Des Moines Register polls are generally considered top quality. I'm not a big Nate Silver fan. He did some pioneering work in sabermetrics. Then he wrote a brilliant book about why professional pundits shouldn't be taken seriously, and the book was ...

fwiw, the editor is still claiming that the decision to not endorse was his and not that that of Bezos but that doesn't really pass the smell test, does it? It all puzzles me. I don't read the LA Times, but WaPo hasn't been ambiguous about their preference, even if they don't come out and say it. S...

Re: 2024 Presidential Election - Take II

I drove by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections today to vote and was heartened to see a line that stretched for close to a quarter mile. Kamala's not going to win here, but we have the country's closest Senate race. In Ohio, the only place to vote early is the county's BoE, so no alternative spot...

Strangely enough, Soon-Shiong went from being a major Democratic donor to being a major Republican donor when Trump took office. My guess is that similarly to Jamie Dimon, he doesn't like Trump but really really super doesn't like the potential consequences of speaking out against him. In other word...

There's a big lead so it probably doesn't matter, but why put in a pinch runner for a runner on 3rd and none out? You burn two players, and even a slow runner on 3rd with none out is likely to score.

Re: NLCS Game 1 IGT 10/13/2024: NYM@LAD — Staring Down at the Lights of L.A.

My cloudy memory of 2006 was that we managed to win some games in the postseason mainly because of Tom Glavine and pieces of duct tape shaped like Oliver Perez, John Maine, and Darren Oliver, and that even getting to the point where Wainwright could freeze Beltran with an unhittable curve was someth...
