Re: IGT 4/2/2025 (#6): NYM@MIA — Holmes Before Home

ghost runner bullshit. Wasn't this peddled originally as temporary? And now they've made it permanent? Or was it introduced as "Now and forevermore you're stuck with this insultingly dumb shit"? I forget. It was peddled as temporary but I suspect that, within the walls of their Park Avenu...

Re: IGT 4/2/2025 (#6): NYM@MIA — Holmes Before Home

That game went a nearly full 3-1/2 hours (3:27). Even for an 11 inning game that's a long one in this new era.
Of course in the old days they would have been starting extras at about the 3:27 mark.

Re: IGT 4/2/2025 (#6): NYM@MIA — Holmes Before Home

Is there something in the rules that prevents us from getting a ball out of the infield with a runner on 3rd and < 2 outs?

Re: IGT 4/2/2025 (#6): NYM@MIA — Holmes Before Home

I tend to think that's a good spot for him under any circumstances. Yup, the 8th is as important as the 9th in that situation. Gary just credited Torrens with "throwing out all three stolen base attempts" against him this season. But shouldn't the leadoff steal in bottom 8th there go agai...

I think he probably was out there (I didn't think so at first) but was it "definitive"?
Let's put it this way, I'd be bitching about it if the unis were reversed on that play.

Gwreck wrote: Wed Apr 02, 2025 7:12 pm I haven’t been able to watch. Why is Diaz pitching the 8th inning of a tied game?
He was already warmed up to get some work in with the off day tomorrow so it was logical to bring him in once the HR happened.
iow, he was coming into the bottom 8th no matter what happened.

And had that one gone Off the fence rather than over it Pete's got himself a very long single which is NOT a forgivable sin in that situation where he's the tying run.

Torrens should have plowed the catcher there.
It IS permitted even under the new rules if the catcher has the ball and is blocking the plate.

Winker's walk (now erased by a GiDP) was the Mets 18th of the young season.
But Alonso (4) and Soto (6) have 10 of them.

Yeah, I forgot to mention him. Arthroscopic surgery so not the worst kind. Still, his return is TBD at this point. Kind of strange finding the above post -- Braves trade for Griffin Canning -- as the most recent one in this thread. The Braves then turned around and released Canning less than a month later and the Mets signed him a month after that (so far, so good). Sounds like Atlanta just found a creative way ...

Re: IGT Game 5 Senga hooks some Marlins 6:40 SNY

The first error didn't hurt thanks to Torrens's caught stealing. Real nice tag by Acuna btw on that CS. Not quite Ordonez/Baez level, but purdy darn good. Thought Senga was going to get past the second Lindor E-6 too. He got the next two outs but then went: BB - 2-RBI 2B Pretty good game overall but...
