MFY resign Dom Smith
Memo to Dom:
The new bats won't help.
Dom batting leadoff today for the Yanks' triple A affiliate and fanned to open the game against Syracuse (Brandon Sproat).

Rough start for Dom: 0/10 with 5 K's through 2+ games.

Vientos not exactly busting it out of the box there.

I fear an Alvarez-like (Alvarezian?) regression this year from #27.

If it were the opposite (Mets at home), I'd have counted Holmes ahead of Soto, since he would've participated first, lineups be damned.

One year and under $5M? Shit that would've been worth bringing him back for sure. Rotation depth and all.

My brother and I once laughed uproariously when Phil Rizzuto said that "Dennis Eckersley needs a haircut, or a permanent."

Not sure I had ever before, and never since, heard someone use the full word for a perm.

Re: Non-NYM off-season moves

SS - Paul DeJong -- 31 y/o SS with pop (24 HRs in '24) and a glove but a sub-.300 career OBP. And, no, the Mets shouldn't sign him just so we won't have to face him.
PDJ to the Nats, one year, $1M. I'd have rather given that to him than face him 18 times this season.

Re: Can we talk about Dylan or should we cease?

But if SD is one of those five teams vying for four spots, do they shop Cease as the season progresses and the backlash of a white flag surrender increases?

A full season of Senga helps but I think this staff is worse than 24 and adding a proven arm like Cease, now, is prudent.

Pham's catching up to former Met Octavio Dotel --this is like his ninth team, and he'll probably be traded again at the deadline.

Thought the Mets overpaid with a one year, $10M contract but his first half made me a fan. Loved the hustle, and his unabashed Judaism--going so far to wear an embroidered Star of David on his belt--at a time when so many people needed signs like that. I'll miss him and wish him well in the Twin Cit...

I live very close to Citi (and even closer to UBS Arena, where tix for this Tuesday night's game are going for $7 on SeatGeek). So I will uber back and forth, thus saving the $40 parking fee (RT is about $25). I use third party resellers platform to get tix and can usually get decent ones on the day...

Went to UBS Arena last night for Isles-Sharks. Really great arena and cool atmosphere. It was HoF induction night for Brent Sutter so they gave away commemorative coins, but his speech was wayyyy too long. Good guys win, 4-1.

Health Updates, 2025

Hopefully this is a thread with more good news than bad. Had a pair of scopes yesterday (upper endoscopy and colonoscopy). This prep (pills) was much better than previous (drink). All seems to be well down below but I have been battling persistent upper GI issues (GERD, hernias, Barrets esophagus) f...

Two interesting (to me) things about that yearbook:

1. They spell his name without the E
2. They don't list his membership on the team for the sport in which he would eventually be enshrined in the HoF

Upon Willie Mays' passing this summer, RH was among a few who could vie for the title of "greatest living ballplayer"

Sadly that was a short tenure, if indeed he held the crown.
