Mets Prospect Lists

Post by MFS62 » Fri Nov 11, 2022 9:02 am

The first one I've seen is Baseball Prospectus (paywall):
1 Francisco Álvarez, C
2 Brett Baty, 3B/OF
3 Kevin Parada, C
4 Jett Williams, SS
5 Alex Ramirez, OF
6 Blake Tidwell, RHP
7 Ronny Mauricio, SS
8 Mark Vientos, 4C *
9 Dominic Hamel, RHP
10 Calvin Ziegler, RHP

Parada and Williams were drafted this year. Matt Allen, who had been carried on past top 10 lists while recovering the TJ surgery has been dropped off - for now.

Later

* = They had "4C" after Vientos' name. I thought it was a typo and replaced it with 1B,3B.
But the more I think about it, it means he can play the four corner positions, 1B,3B, LF and RF.
I changed it back.

Of the pitchers, Tidwell and Ziegler were at St. Lucie in 2022. Hamel is a little closer to the big leagues; he was in Brooklyn.

Not in this top ten, but closer to debuts are Grant Hartwig and Eric Orze. And only barely just debuted are José Butto and Bryce Montes de Oca.

Just you watch.

The Baseball America list:
1 Francisco Alvarez C
2 Brett Baty 3B
3 Kevin Parada C
4 Alex Ramirez OF
5 Jett Williams SS
6 Mark Vientos 3B
7 Ronny Mauricio SS
8 Blade Tidwell RHP
9 Calvin Ziegler RHP
10 Matt Allan RHP

Allen back in this list. That is the most encouraging news I've heard about Allen. I hope that means they know that he's on his way to recovering from TJ surgery.
And, Parada really must impress the evaluators to be ranked so high after just a few games as a pro.

or alternatively how far Vientos and Mauricio have fallen. Jett Williams was a 2022 draftee too.

Considering the strong season that Vientos had in AAA and the one Mauricio has had in AA and so far in winter ball, I'm looking at it as more of an upgrade for Parada and Williams (and Alex Ramirez) than a downgrade for the Vientos and Mauricio.

One must acknowledge that a disproportionate bulk of Parada's and Williams' rankings come from their draft pedigree, but Parada played two years in the ACC and a brief summer in the Cape Cod League, so evaluators have certainly seen plenty of him.

It's an encouraging list from where I sit.

The big news there for me is that Jet Williams passes Mauricio and Parada among veteran Met prospects.

Alex Ramirez too, depending on what previous rankings you're working from.
