Immaculate Grid 87 9/9:

IMMACULATE!
🟩🟩🟩
🟩🟩🟩
🟩🟩🟩

Yass!

Howie Kendrick (8) Bryan Harvey (3) and Nolan Ryan (44)
Andre Dawson (5) starlin Castro (18) maddux (33)
Scherzer (52) piazza (13) Seaver (58)

Castro was my biggest guess. I was worried I was conflating him with someone else.

Whew.

I only got six of nine. Nationals (I didn't think to include Expos for them) and Marlins stumped me because all or most of their history came along after my attention waned following the 1994 strike.

For the Angels, I only got their 20-win pitcher, Nolan Ryan. (43%)

Cubs/Nationals: Daniel Murphy 6%
Cubs/Marlins: -- (I guessed Dontrelle Willis and Gary Sheffield)
Cubs/20 wins: Fergie Jenkins 22%
Mets/Nationals: Max Scherzer 51%
Mets/Marlins: Mike Piazza 12%
Met/20 wins: Tom Seaver 58%

So that makes me wonder: Would Walter Johnson count as a Minnesota Twin? Or George Sisler as a Baltimore Oriole?

I was overly confident that Chone Figgins was both an Angel and a National. It turns out that they are both just red teams. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

6 of 9. I might have done better if I didn't wake up at 4:15, see the M, think, "oh, Mariners", and immediately put Edwin Diaz in what was actually the Marlins/Mets box.

But like Ben Grimm, I haven't been plugged in enough to baseball since 1994 to be able to name a Cub and Marlin. "Name a Marlin" is challenging enough.

I also played it safe and assumed Expos wouldn't be considered Nationals.

Angel/National - Rendon
Angel/Marlin - ?
20-win Angel - Ryan
Cub/Nat - ?
Cub/Marlin - ?
20-win Cub - Jenkins
Met/ Nat - Murph
Met/Marlin - Conine
20-win Met - Seaver
The first principle is that you must not fool yourself, and you are the easiest person to fool.

I was 5/5 but hit a wall with the Tampa ROY. I knew that the name would come to me if I slept on it though.

So I slept and the name came to me! But it was the wrong name (Carl Crawford). And so was the next one (Wander Franco).

Screw you, Tampa.

This one didn't look promising at all to me, but I managed to pull out an 8. I got all the Brady kids, and Mike and Carol, but I missed out on the Alice square, also known as the "Paul Lynde".

Eight out of nine. I whiffed on the same cell that Grimm also missed. Of my eight correct answers, the one that took me the longest to come up with was Pete Alonso (40HR season/ROY). Go figure. My rarest answer was Tiger/Phillie Jim Bunning (1%).

Giants/Pirates - Barry Bonds 38%
D'Backs 100 RBIs - Luis Gonzalez 39%
Astros 100 RBIs - Jeff Bagwell 34%

I didn't miss on Arizona/Colorado, so much as I never got a guess in there as it took me two guesses on some other box.

I got a seven. I've decided that I can be satisfied with seven or more.

I had two wrong guesses: Freddie Patek as the Royals Gold Glove and Tom Glavine as 300 wins/Gold Glove.

Royals/Braves: --
Royals/Yankees: David Cone 3%
Royals/Gold Glove: Amos Otis 0.5%
Dodgers/Braves: Freddie Freeman 53%
Dodgers/Yankees: Steve Sax 3%
Dodgers Gold Glove: Davey Lopes 0.4%
300 wins/Braves: Phil Niekro 5%
300 wins/Yankees: Rogers Clemens 69%
300 wins/Gold Glove: --
