What's in Store for Twenty-Four?: David Peterson
Listen, I didn't invent these ZiPS projections, which supposedly predict how many fWAR a guy is going to have the end of the season. I don't even necessarily buy that fWAR reflects a guy's performance, successfully comparing the apples of starting pitching to the pears of relieving, and to the oranges of hitting and the kumquats of fielding. There's the raisins of baserunning in there too. But here I am, and ZiPS predicts that I'm supposed to earn the second-most fWAR among Mets pitchers.
I know, right? I don't even know what ZiPS stands for to be honest. I suspect those projections haven't been revisited since I was hurt, but hey, since they are projecting 24 starts for me, maybe that injury wasn't totally unanticipated by ZiPS (again, whatever that means). I mean, I got operated on back in November, so they probably had some kind of heads-up.
I guess what I'm saying is that somebody or something expects me to be relevant in 2024, perhaps a little moreso than you might be expecting. And maybe you should consider that. I mean, hey, hip surgery in November isn't ideal, but it ain't elbow surgery in March, you know. Sooner or later, I'm getting back on that field, and I'm working to make that sooner. So maybe you work a little too. Work on telling me what you expect out of my left arm.

Shaky rehab in the minors.
Finds his stuff and command in July.
Brought up in August.
Used out of the bullpen, unless someone looks at his numbers and realizes he is batter as a starter.
Ends up 4-3 4.12.

I think he'll be back in Queens by June. Will get seven starts over the course of the season, and will otherwise pitch long/middle relief. 3-3, 4.20 ERA. 1 save.

Whatever he can do to help the team, that's what he'll do.
2-3, 4.00 in 19 appearances, 3 starts.
I have no idea

The Mets will finally be fed up with him and trade him on July 7th.

On the IL by mid-April. Will make a so-so comeback in time to be
a throw-in in mid July or so.
