Maybe Mendoza is just a bad manager.
Maybe they need to stop hiring guys off the street with no managerial experience.
The last time they hired a guy with actual experience, he led them to a 101-win season. And the last time before that, he led them to the World Series in 2015.

if teams only ever hired experienced managers, there wouldn't be any managers to hire after too long.Cowtipper wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 2:49 pm Maybe Mendoza is just a bad manager.

Mendoza may be a bad manager, but he isn't off the street, and he has managerial experience.
Re: 5/14/24 - The 'Why is this a Day Game?' IGT
This is Mendoza's first year managing in the majors.

Mendoza got a team with a pretend pitching staff, minus their top starter, and are "in transition" on offense. That they're around .500 is about what we all would have expected.
Re: 5/14/24 - The 'Why is this a Day Game?' IGT
It seemed that, as we are talking about the major leagues, the assumption of 'major league experience' was built into the statement. But as I've had to spell things out for the less-than-critical thinkers in the past, I'll spell it out here, as well.
He managed in the low minors over a decade ago.
No comparison.

Yeah, I don't know that I like Mendoza, but he's far down the list of what's fucked up right now.
Honestly, I'm surprised we haven't been no-hit yet.

You can make all the assumptions you want. The statement you wrote was incorrect. Both statements you wrote were incorrect.Cowtipper wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 2:59 pm It seemed that, as we are talking about the major leagues, the assumption of 'major league experience' was built into the statement. Being condescending won't change that, so please don't do that.

boy, y'know, you never know how good you are at filling out a lineup card until you have to do it in the big leagues.
talking like dude just fell offa turnip truck and landed the manager's job. for fuck's sake.

The statements are not incorrect.
Apples -- > apples.
Minor league experience != major league experience.
For those who need things spelled out, apples --> apples implies we should compare like things, not those that are vastly dissimilar. I apologize if my building that assumption into the aforementioned is too hard to grapple with.

It's a lot different in the major leagues. You don't just have to fill out lineup cards.metsmarathon wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 3:05 pm boy, y'know, you never know how good you are at filling out a lineup card until you have to do it in the big leagues.

You also have to be really good at obeying the analytics departments.

In other news, the Mets are still being one-hit.
Thanks a lot MENDOZA!
Clearly he lacks the intangibles that a veteran major league manager has, and he doesn't have the ability to inspire a winning spirit.

You're as factually wrong as you are in the other thread. But when confronted with facts, you declare yourself to be bored.
Also, Mendoza had managed in at least 25 MLB games following ejections and/or suspensions of Aaron Boone.
You are factually wrong. And I wish you would stop. Facts are really easy to find.

It does get boring going in circles, that is true.
Re: 5/14/24 - The 'Why is this a Day Game?' IGT
Then please stop making false statements.
It's so easy.

We're going in circles.
Which is boring.

Maybe the Mets should hire a manager from Japan. Inspire that Bushido warrior spirit.
We don't need no wishy-washy nobody like Mendoza.
How about we Men-'Don't"-za?
Now that's a quality Mendoza line.

There's a cream for that.
I had no expectations of this team going in (see my season prediction), so I'm not surprised they are where they are. The pitching's actually been better than I expected, and the hitting's been far worse. Mendoza hasn't really moved the needle one way or the other. The die was cast in the offseason.
Even duct tape can't fix stupid. But it can sure muffle the sound.
