Currently 4th place and 10 games back
They're just a half game out. Did you forget what a stupid shitshow the league is now?
Also, Cohen could have just the same meant that the Mets can't be buyers until the trade deadline nears.

That occurred to me too.

San Diego found a way to be a buyer (and Miami a seller) well prior to the trading deadline.

I don't remember if I voted in this poll, but if it were late in the offseason, I would have guessed third. I'd still guess third now. I think they'll eventually overtake Washington.
I know the Mets may well benefit from the third WC team, but I still think it was a stupid idea to add it. A .500 team should never make the playoffs.

The can get a playoff spot and sell at the same time
Cohen probably doesn't know himself at this point what he wants to know
The post season may be watered down but you still have to make the tournament to win it

Ya think so?
Inevitably, the teams that keep on just missing out on the playoffs will raise such a stink about the cutoff, that they'll expand the playoffs again and then seven teams from each league will qualify, with just one team getting a first round bye. Then you might get sub .500 playoff teams. But hey! More playoff money to go around. Which is always what it's all about: owners making more money and the fans paying for the more money that goes around. That's the whole point of the game -- how much fucking money can the owners take out of your pocket to put into theirs?
