Bummer! Condolences to his family. A member of the Mets Hall of Fame.

Re: RIP Jerry Grote 1942-2024
I miss his kind of ballplayer, and by that I mean that he was one tough SOB ... which is basically what his friends called him.
Just the simple act of rolling the ball back to the mound following the 3rd out of the half-inning to the opposite side of the
opposing pitcher's dugout just so he'd have to walk an extra couple of strides in order to pick it up -- and, yes kids, there
once was a time when baseballs continued to be used even if they briefly touched the ground -- was the perfect way to
silently say that he didn't show up to the park that day in order to make friends.

Where is "Forum Archives"? I see several specialized archives, but no Forum Archives.kcmets wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 9:08 amNo, I clicked:batmagadanleadoff wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 2:12 amI had to reverse engineer your post to figure out how you found that thread. You went into the UMDB to find it, it seems.

And typed:

Thanks for finding the Grote Thread. Fun mammaries.

I saw a great quote the other day on Facebook. Someone posted that Johnny Bench one said "If Jerry Grote and I had been on the same team, I would have been the third baseman".batmagadanleadoff wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 1:47 pm Grote's defense was Cooperstown Hall of Fame caliber.
A true tribute to Grote's defensive prowess.
Later
I blame Susan Collins

I have never insulted anyone. I simply describe them, accurately.

Another Mets legend, gone :-(. This is about the time where they will start perishing in droves.
