Lindor Watch

Heading for MRI
September 15, 2024

Lindor (back) said after Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Phillies that he will undergo an MRI on Monday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old had been playing through some back problems for a couple weeks before he aggravated the injury Friday. He returned to the lineup Sunday, only to be removed after playing just one and a half innings. Lindor should be considered day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener versus Washington. -- Rotowire

It's got to be at least somewhat demoralizing to the team, I think.

I’d love to think it could also spur the veterans to step up (looking your way, Pete, Starling, and Brandon).

Because whenever players feel like it, they could play a lot better than they usually do. They just turn on their mqgic clutch switch and voila, they become 50 homers a year hitters instead of 25 homers a year hitters. And they'll hit .600 the rest of the way out.

Why they wait for Lindor to be out of the lineup before they magically clutch up is the big mystery because if they turned on their super-duper magic clutch powers from the start of the season, they'd all be vying for MVP and the Mets would have 110 wins by now.

It's probably Mendoza's fault. He didn't ask for them to clutch up and play better properly.

"Hey you! Pete Alonso. Lindor's hurt. So start hitting like the prime of Hank Aaron. And you, J.D. Martinez! You start hitting like Ted Williams. But from the right side. As if Ted Williams was a right-handed batter. Lindor's out of the lineup. You too, Jose Iglesias! Just pick a Hall of Famer and hit like him. Just don't pick a Hall of Fame pitcher. Or Bill Mazeroski."

Yeah, that's it. The veterans aren't trying their best. Only a Lindor injury could possibly motivate them to play better. Not a playoff seed, or the enormous amount of money they might make from playing better or their personal self-interest in producing the best stats possible, none of that. It's Lindor's back problem that's gonna motivate them.

Would be nice if the rest of the team would show up and sweep the Nats and give Lindor a break.

Still not ready. Productive ABs from Luisangel Acuna do lessen the sting, at least these past few games.

I can hardly guess what we'll get going forward, but Acuña's at-bats have been positively Lindovian. The defense has been mostly there also.

Amazingly, he has yet to attempt a steal.

Great news.
Going into the playoffs, I'd rather have a Lindor Watch than a Bulova.
