AL WC Race

Post by Frayed Knot » Sun Sep 22, 2024 10:25 pm

Obviously we've been concentrating on our side of the ledger, but the AL side has some interesting things going on as well.
The biggest difference is that most of those teams are losing more often than not so even a semi-decent run (like the Tigers) has them climbing the ladder.

So as we go into the final week: Minnesota lost a DH to Boston today which drops the Twinkies out and keeps the BoSox marginally in.
There are some games against each other but the Royals end the season with two National League teams.
Seattle and Baltimore have yet to be officially eliminated for their division crowns but effectively are out of time.

The Royals being there seems like a mistake. I've seen them a couple of times in addition to the Mets series, and they just didn't look like much.

Of course, the Mariners made the Mets look like the White Sox AAA team, so you never quite know if the team you think you see is the real McKnight.

The Royals are currently on a seven game losing streak
They've managed to tumble from the brink of the AL Central lead (1.5 back on Aug 29) to the brink of being eliminated.

They're scoreless so far in the 6th in Washington

Yanx have clinched a playoff spot but not yet the division.
Baltimore beat them Tuesday night and are up big again tonight (9 - 3 bottom 9th).

Now the O's have already clinched a WC slot and would have to run the table while having the Yanx lose out
in order to tie on record and take the division away via h-t-h record, but the thought is fun to contemplate.

9-7 Baltimore as Aaron Judge hits his 57th w/two men on.
One out, bases empty, Orioles just changed pitchers.
