Announced by SNY on the Insta, Keith had to put his kitty down last week at the ripe old age of 22. God speed, Hadji

Does anyone know the history behind the name?

I'm guessing it's related in some way to HoJo - Haji - Ali Hadji Shiekh...

It's sad when a pet dies, and even sadder if you have to make the call. I know how Keith feels right now.

Keith grew up as a big fan of Johnny Quest cartoons, and Johnny had a resourceful Indian BFF named Hadji.

What made Howard Johnson's nickname fascinating was how it evolved, from "Howard Johnson" to "HoJo" to "Hodge" to "Hadji" to "Hadji-Sheik" to "Sheik."

Keith was responsible for taking the name from "Hodge" to "Hadji."

From that picture, Hadji was a Sikh.

His last name was, in fact, Singh.

Hadji was also Johnny's brother by adoption.

This is an unknown and very interesting revelation to me. I
just always assumed it was a HoJo thing. KB loves Keith, and
she loved Johnny Quest (which I have almost zero memory of)
and she will find this fun fact a delight later this evening.

When I saw the name Hadji I thought of the cartoon character, too. Keith and I are about the same age, and that was a must watch back then.

Twenty two is really a blessed number of years to have the same pet. Our Mookie lived to be 19 and at the time we put him down in 2022 my kids, age 17 and 15 at the time, had remarkably grown up their entire lives with the same pet. My wife was crestfallen when we said goodbye. It's the most I ever saw her cry in all the time I have known her (and she cries ALL THE TIME lol)

Oh this is sad! I used to follow Hadji on Twitter.

So cute!
